Ok

In response to Duke of Hal's request here's a chance to vote on a favourite Duke setlist.
You get to vote for one song. We'll give it a month and then see what the top 8 - 10 are. You never know The Duke might even take some notice of the results!

I'm going for "Love Is A Series Of Scars".
Would it not be best to set up a poll or something similar?

OK - at the risk of being heckled, I'm gonna vote for a golden oldie, God on your side and am probably cheating cos it's not strictly Duke Special. (Perhaps I'll get another vote! )

I absolutely love all the new songs but I also think this is one of the most amazing and powerful songs ever and one of my favourites out of my entire music collection!

Shame we can't vote for more than one... :(

Well if you're going to mention any Booley stuff then I'd have to go for My Little Glory. That, of course, is only based on 60 second clip of all the songs, because I haven't got, and can't seem to get any of the material! I'm still waiting for Duke to get back to Belfast to get the CD from him.

Or could anybody else help me?

I think I got my CD from a US website but you could try emailing Duke's manager, Steve (see contacts on home page). He was able to sell me a Benzine Headset CD so I guess he may have Booley ones too!

Steve will pretty much sell you anything if you pay him enough money, he's a regular delboy!

I've only got the vandal EP so far (waiting on my postman to deliver adventures in gramophone) but I'll throw in my tuppence worth anyway - worst at the best of times.

Or low 'cos that's the first song I heard of his and made my hairs stand up at the back of my neck and ears prick up. Sorry, I'm breaking the rules!

It's got to be 'Love Is A Serious Of Scars' for me. I've asked Duke to play this at his last two gigs when I met him afterwards -I'll have to shout for it during his set next time! :D

We haven't yet evolved to doing requests.....one day soon perhaps, or maybe we'll get this fan-designed setlist we're asking for?

I think Duke might have to do an extended set sometime incorporating Booley and Benzine Headset review, then all his best cover versions, followed by the new songs! 3 hours should be enough time to cover all the requests, which is fine with me, as long as it's a gig in London rather than Belfast!

Wembley Stadium Summer 2007 ought to do it!

okay well i'm going to reply to lots of posts all in one go so hang on to your hats...

firstly wembley stadium will never be finished by 2007 :)

secondly i have all the booley and benzine headset stuff which i can copy if people can't buy it anywhere... is that strictly legal i doubt it! remember when it used to be ok to tape things for your friends but once everything went digital it became crime of the century.

my favourite live performance song would have to be 'salvation tambourine'
as for covers... hmm i loved it when placebo's every you and every me got an airing every now and again :)

Ah bless, cassette tapes....
Hovering over the REC/PAUSE on Sunday eveing during the Top 40 trying to edit out Bruno Brookes!!!
Making hiss ridden compilation tapes was so much more fun than downloading, ripping and burning....wasn't it? :?
The innocence of it all

Tommy Tiernan has a great bit about the 'Music Downloading Crisis of the 80s' [i.e. recording from the radio].

Of the Duke's live stuff, I'd have to say that Salvation Tambourine really knocked my socks off. Although after checking him out more thoroughly, Freewheel too.

I've never seen a full Duke set [alas, only his supporting of The Frames in Dublin, and then at the Choice Music Awards], but hearing him do a cover of Placebo's Every You Every Me would be amazing!

- this is my No 1 at the momen. Possibly a little known Duke song - but it follows his tradition of songs - beautiful lyrics, simple compostion -and haunting emotion - free download with the Freewheel vinyl single - check it out

I second Daz's nomination of 'Slip of a Girl'. I love that track...it reminds me of my gran! (not that she was one, just that she used to call me that all the time!) :)

Oi, pipe down you. Pedantism is a serious matter for all concerned...

Is pedantism the right word?

Is pedantism the right word?

think about it...
Quite: The office, disposition, or act of a pedant; pedantry.

duke of hal
16-08-2007, 3:20 pm
I KNOW that, but is it pedantism..or could it be pedanticism?

Pick the flies (or nits) out of that!

Off to apologise to the Harry Potter massive...

Stephen
16-08-2007, 3:58 pm
"Pedanticism" would describe a trait/characteristic of one being pedantic - therefore referring the person, not the act.
Pedantism refers to the act.

'Low' is amazing but the one song to put me in good form is 'Slip of a Girl'. All the others are great too.

Tough choice but think I'd go for " Closer to the start" or " I feel for you" or " Low" ohhhhh it's too difficult!!!!!!

Guildford Ghost

Yep, the acoustic CLOSER TO THE START, but the version with Chip doing the occasional percussion bits.

Nomio

The right answer is 'My Careless Heart' with Rea Curran doing bvs.

Guildford Ghost
03-05-2008, 1:23 am
In this case, bvs = bloody violent sanding.

That Rea is a killer when he gets a Black & Decker, and it's even worse when he's got an audience.

Love Is A Series of Scars (chk out Mrfizzy's vid on the Oran Mor thread for embarrassing proof!;)) closely followed by This Could Be My Last Day, Low, Closer etc, etc.....
