Just listening to Songs From The Deep Forest here, through earphones, while it's being recorded onto my laptop :)
I'm glad to hear that the background vocals have been kept in the start of Freewheel.
There are loads of we touches that I like - like the drums at the start of Ballad Of A Broken Man. Just listening there - the extra vocals at the end of Freewheel are great "Come on, come on, come on" etc :)

The drums at the start of Portrait really help, the double bass makes a nice touch too.
Scarlet: I'm loving the piano just before the chorus. Excellent! Biggest hitting song so far.
Ballad Of A Broken Man - I've always loved this is song. Good to hear the drums.

Everybody Wants A Little Something - first heard this song just before Christmas, great to hear a recorded version of it at last. Again the drums and double bass really add to the feel on the song. It's missing Rea's background vocals though :( Nice horn section about 2 mintues in though :)

Brixton Leaves - Great verses in this song - you know they're coming, but to you sing along anyways. The off-beat cymbol really helps to convery the sinister side of the song.
It's a grower.

Duke's vocals are really song throughout the entire album. Well worth the wait. Well done Duke :)

Will go and give the album a proper listening too now. Probably should have done that first :)

Sounds excellent Steve, can't wait to hear the all new 'Scarlett'.
How's the recorded version of 'Salvation' sounding? Generous kettle drummimg and double bass rumblings?
Plenty of, "I could go to London's" too I hope, lol!!

Can't wait till tomorrow night :D

Salvation has plenty of drums, horns and "I could go to Londons" :)
You'll not be disappointed!

Again, say hello to me tomorrow, I'll be up the front in a black leather jacket with a Nikon camera! :)

I really would love to say that I like the "jew street" version better.... but i just can't seem to get the original masterpiece out of my head.

All i can picture is a guy sitting at a piano on a rainy night playing/writing this song until the early hours and in the morning waking up and realising what he has acomplished for all his hard works!

Yeah I agree I still prefer the original 'Freewheel' over the Jew Street version but thats not to take away from the newer version by any means.

As you guys said; Salvation Tambourine sounds amazing on this record and my god 'Wake up Scarlett' is unreal! Definately one of my faves but tis 'Ballad of a Broken Man' that I just cant get out of my head 24/7, its the melody. This is the one I crave most to hear!

Absolutely amazing set of records, Duke you just keep getting better! 8)

by "original" Freewheel, do you folks mean the Benzine Headset one? I like the one on "Gramophone" best...
