Folks,
Can anybody confirm the proposed tracklisting for the CD? Since the 7"s are all in pairs, there's no indication there! I'm going to be listening to it from now till the release of the CD, so I want to be listening to it in the right order! Duke could you lend a hand here perhaps?

Cheers,
Steve.

I am actually open for suggestions on this, so any thoughts are welcome! thanks

My first draft would be:

Scarlett
Portrait
Freewheel
Brixton Leaves
No Cover Up
Everybody Wants A Little Something
Slip Of A Girl
Something Might Happen
Last Night I Nearly Died
Ballad Of A Broken Man
Salvation Tambourine
This Could Be My Last Day

Though I really need to get to know the album better...
Are there any "must have that song there" kinda restrictions? I'd definitely put Scarlett as the opener.

Steve.

Hmm actually, perhaps move No Cover Up to the end and shift This Is My Last Day up a bit...

mmm, Ive been giving this some thought myself as I wanted to make a cd for the car (until the real thing comes out!).

1 Last night I nearly died
2 Everybody wants a little something
3 Slip of a girl
4 Freewheel
5 Portrait
6 Ballad of a broken man
7 Brixton leaves
8 Something might happen
9 Wake up scarlett
10 No cover up
11 This could be my last day
12 Salvation Tambourine

Although, maybe Last night and Scarlett swap places...

Scarlett has to open things up, seeings as Duke himself chooses it to commence live proceedings, and we all know that gets things off to a flyer every time.

Yeah, but I don't think things should end with Salvation Tambourine to be honest. It's just not a ending song for an album...

Ending the album is so much more difficult than starting it (probably why Duk'es thrown it out to the forum).

do you go for the big 'finish': Salvation Tambourine

or do you go for a longer 'anthem': Freewheel

I vote for Freewheel

We need to create a voting system for track numbers, but it would be really lengthy. Unless we all post our order and 'admin' does a countback?

Ach man! You can't put freewheel at the end! I personally think this album would be better ending on a quiter note.

to be honest i like an album to finish on a bold track not a quiter one. leaves you with a more memorable lasting impression in my opinion.
freewheel for me

I personally think this album would be better ending on a quieter note.

I must agree. The album would be best brought to muted conclusion rather than a big finale. 'Salvation Tambourine' and 'Freewheel' are big tracks and leave you wanting more.

I suggest 'Something might happen'....

personally i'm a sucker for a sneaky hidden track. the cd would be the perfect place to surprise us with something new just when we think the album has finished :)

Just got my boxset.... it's soooooo beautiful!!! :smt081
Been feeling out of the loop with exams and things!!!
Definately like the hidden track idea... if it's October for the launch of the cd and the downloadable tracks I'm sure Duke will have a few more songs up his sleeve!!!

I think the box set is beautiful too - a work of art! :) The vinyl singles seem to be much chunkier and heavier than I remember but they sound great on my record player, although it's odd to be jumping up and down to put the next track on (and I'm disappointed there's no scratched "secret messages" on them)!

The songs sound amazing, especially the new enhanced versions of the "old" songs. Portrait's got a good live feel again and makes a very joyous sound. The one I'm playing the most at the moment is "No cover up" and I think that might be a good one to finish on. I also initially thought that "This could be my last day" would be a good last track but "No cover up" sounds the most melancholic to me. Although a secret track would be good too!!

but before I did I looked at the cd's on which there is a number on each side of each disc and each number finishes in a letter A to L which I've taken to represent the correct order for the tracks....

a. brixton leaves
b. slip of a girl
c. everybody wants a little something
d. ballad of a broken man
e. salvation tambourine
f. something might happen
g. freewheel
h. portrait
i. last night i nearly died
j this could be my last day
k. no cover up
L. wake up scarlett

i actually like the way the album flows and i really like the big finish with scarlett (great version)

I just got the promo CD for "portrait" as well, but not the full album.

Is that a shop in the city sir or does it have a site?

Sorted! They don't have the album but i got the rest i didn't have!

I have a question though... are places like that allowed to sell promo material even though it says "For promotional use only, not for re-sale"?

I'm not complaining... i just wanted to know.

thesneakybandit
24-07-2006, 4:33 pm
i would guess no... but some records and cd's are marked "promo copy" and words to that effect but fail to mention that it's not for re-sale, which i suppose legally lets the sellers off the hook...

it's kinda like my local chinese that sells can's of coke that are marked "this can is part of a multi-pack and is not to be sold seperately"... you know it's wrong but you want the coke, they want the money... everyone wins :)

Kate

yeah, it is strange how promo things get sold quite freely before release- and yet pre-release download leaks are attacked so often. strange. the duke album is just... wonderful!

looking forword to portrait, i assume all the tracks will be downloadable as was with the freewheel one?

Thanks for the vinyl exchange website, Sneaky. I've bought a copy of Portrait promo - at least I think I have - it had disappeared from their website this morning and then popped back up again a little while ago. There are a couple on ebay if anyone else is interested!

hehe, i was bidding on the one on ebay for like the last 3 days and then i went to that shop and saw it for a fiver! got the other two promos as well.

Does anybody else know of where i can get the promo album from? (PM if possible)
