View Full Version : Empire door policy on Saturday night

The Saturday night gig was fantastic, as always, but a lot of people had problems getting into the Empire. The bouncers were checking ID for anyone under the age of 30 it seemed, and would only accept about two forms of ID.
Students with University of Ulster or Scotish University student cards were being turned away and told that only Queens student cards were acceptable ID. One of my friends had never heard the Duke live before and travelled from Cookstown but couldn't get in because he hadn't brought the correct ID.
Did anyone else have these problems or was it better on Sunday night?
I was lucky in that I live not far outside Belfast and when I came back with my Birth Certificate, graduation photo and Press Pass, they were very embarressed and apologetic, but thats not much comfort to the guys who paid money for tickets and weren't allowed in because they didn't go the the right university. Apparently it was a different company doing the doors than at the Empire dates last year, when there didn't seem to be any problems.

I hate crap like that. Under circumstances like that, I would have asked to see the manager to explain to him your situation.

But then again:
a) it's a pub - you need to be able to provide ID if they ask for it.
B) they do reserve the right to turn anybody away.

The best thing you can do is just always bring your ID I'm afriad.
Steve.

Me and my friend were asked. All we had were our Age cards from home. The lady on the door spent a minute or two looking at it but didnt say anything and let us through no problem.

ahh age cards. i love your *ahem* i mean our country and it's funny little ways!

as far as the door policy goes. it states on the tickets that it's an over 18 event and that ID will be required. as with everything there are a million and one terms and conditions in the small print which no one ever reads but which do point out that the venue can refuse admission to anyone at their discretion.

i've been turned away from lots of places upon producing a student card as they are one of the easiest pieces of ID to fake. the only thing that has never let me down is my driving license.

personally i would rather see a few people get turned away by strict doormen than have our pubs and clubs over-run with underage drinkers.

No, I'm being serious! "Let's make a card that allows everybody to get drunk!"
"Got your card?"
"Yep."
"Come on in!..."

Well lets face it, i think they just didnt like the look of you! because the person i was with is only 16 and she got in no problem! we didnt even get asked for ID even though those in front where being asked left right and centre for them. To be honest, if you dander in in a t-shirt and a pair of gutties they are going to try and find any possible oppurtunity to not let you in! Funny the way bouncers are like that! [-(
