Anyone know his stuff? He is also pretty good. Does a lot of support slots, rather than his own gigs but worth checking out.

I remember getting one of his songs on some compilation and thinking he was very good. That was 2 years ago maybe and Ive never heard of him doing a tour.

i've seen him supporting duke special, iain archer and turin brakes and to be honest i found him a bit bland and boring. just another generic irish singer with a guitar but without that little spark that sets him apart from all the rest

I know what you mean...I thought Gary Dunne who I saw supporting the Duke in Wrexham was much better, at least he's experimenting with his sound. I am a sucker for male singer songwriter chaps tho...

i've seen countless acoustic troubadors come and go and admit that there's not much a guy can do with just a voice and an acoustic guitar. speaking from experience, if you go for the tuneless poetic, philosophical and political people will slate you as just another dylan wannabe... unless you play to kids in which case you'll be lumbered with the next bright eyes tag! on the other hand if you put a little bit of effort into the vocals but go for the more whimsical slant on the song content you run the risk of falling into the damien rice mould. out of all those i've seen over the years i would say that david kitt and glen hansard stand out head and shoulders above the rest although mark geary also impressed me in a quirky story telling kind of way.

Ooh, I'm a huge Frames fan, another criminally overlooked band...well, over here at least.
Do you like Ray LaMontagne? His album is sublime and live he almost moves me to tears, I felt in the presence of a true genius.

can't say i'd heard of him until now... just been checking him out on myspace although i forgot to bring my headphones to work  so i've more or less just been listening with my eyes. looks like he has a good range of influences and he's got a beard which is always a good thing!

Never saw what the big deal was with David Kitt.I always thought he was really boring.Glen Hansard, Emmett Tinley and Mark Geary are all fantastic live. With mark tho im not sure if im going for the music sometimes or the comedy.

that's what i love about mark geary though. i would give anything for my songs to have that air of humour and reminiscing wit! also the first time i saw him play, his guitar had a hole worn right through it and he was wearing a kenny rogers tshirt...

Tom McRae is utterly brilliant - sublime songs and an utter sweetheart to boot.

Ooh, yes, I'm a huge Tom McRae fan, have seen him quite a few times and was lucky enough to see him on the first album tour in some tiny venues, last year when I saw him in Birmingham it was rammed, I had no idea he'd gotten so big!

I urge everyone to buy "Trouble", Ray LaMontagne's album, it's a work of pure heartbreak which I know has been done a million times but his voice has such an ache to it...I've seen him a few times, the last time was at V last year, bloody Oasis were doing their karaoke on the main stage and Ray was quietly weaving his magic to about 50 people in the small tent, it felt very special.

Still, but he's great - as is Emmett Tinley and Tom McRae (seen the latter a number of times and he is very sarcastic (the last time it was about Hollyoaks)!

Hey Sneakly, saw Fionn last night, top drawer performance, much more dirty blues/country folk rock now (still played a ballad or 2). Told me he's buried the guy in the hat in his back garden.......

......he must've read your review on here, eh?

give the boy another chance?

Didn't impress me when I saw him with Hal I'm afraid. I'm with Sneaky on the bland thing.

Been listening to Fionn more lately, after seeing him play in the Roisin in Galway a while back. Something about him that interests me. I dont like all of his songs but there are a few that I think are very good indeed. He is growing on me!!

I do like Fionn's stuff but have struggled with his live performances. I first saw him supporting Rodrigo y Gabriella last year and was bitterly disappointed. It was just him and guitar on stage and he just couldn't hold the crowd - he lacked stage presence and the crowd just talked over him. And it was the same with a few of the other ones where he did support
Hopefully though, the more he performs to larger crowds the better he will get

I love his album. I especially like Underwood Typewriter, Hunter's Map, Snowy Atlas Mountains and The End of History. Love the finger picking guitar. I bought his album the same time i got Newton Faulkner's one. Everyone was going on and on about Newton's guitar playing but i was more impressed with Fionn's!:D

I saw him supporting Damien Rice. He is the only other artist on Damien Rice's own record label.

I really like him and his album is fantastic. Great to see him nominated for a Mercury Prize even though he didn't win.
