There have been quite a few queries about the meaning behind Duke's songs. So he's promised me to give a definitive explanation of one song on the new album. But which one??? Let the poll begin...

Good choice.... i couldn't pick two :(
I've got a feeling that Ballad of a Broken Man was aired just after George Best died, but I could be wrong! I've voted No Cover Up...

I voted for Freewheel. Maybe not my favourite of the Dukes' songs, but it seems so personal and I still think it will be the song to break him.
I want to know the inspiration for "You're a face in the distance i hope to recognise, it's like running through deep water trying to look into your eyes."

I voted for Freewheel but I wish he'd explain the stories that inspired "Closer to the Start" or "Regarding the Moonlight..." etc from the last album!

Out of interest i would just like to ask.... when do we know when the poll is finished admin?
Might there be an unknown date?
I've given it a 15 day target. After that I will probably spend quite some time following DS around until he cracks and gives me the background info we want!

Yes i know, but i think everyone at one stage of their lives can relate to this song in some respects.
It's a song that reminds to to rethink something before it has the chance to happen...

Looking forward to the CD release so I can hear all the new ones...

It's a shame. Salvation Tambourine seems to tell a much more interesting story. It intrigues me.

Well, we all could complain (or many of us) that our song didn't win, but at least we'll get one explanation, right?
Although as a writer meself, I wonder if explications of art are a good thing sometimes...

The Duke is off in Europe at the moment but I have asked him for the song meaning and will keep pursuing him until he confesses!
He did say that he had written something so we'll get it at some stage. :)

I'm not sure what it is about...but do you not think that most of the enjoyment is in the mystery? I think some of us will be dissapointed when he does tell us what it's about, there'll be no more fantasy, you can't really wonder or think up situations in your head...let your mind wander to distant faces and far off places......

Lol I suppose I could, but where would the unnecessary philosophy be in that?
Finally... you can go to the Lyrics page in the member's area to read the definitive Duke explanation to the meaning of 'No Cover Up'. (last song in the list)
I apologize to Peter - he sent it to me in early October and it got stuck in a Spam folder in my inbox!

Hiya Jeff and welcome:) Good to have you with us:)
Still seeking enlightenment over the meaning of No Cover Up?
Been tried before I'm afraid...so you're not alone!
Come to think of it there was a poll here onceover listing songs we would like Duke to explain and ......crikey Moses...I do believe No Cover Up was voted top:)
The general concensus was that it's obviously so completely personal a lyric that it would be too intrusive to probe for an explanation........or, we got bored by the deafening silence on the subject............ie. we let him off!!
Realising that this entire post is as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike.......keep trying Jeff and sooner or later you'll achieve a sensible answer........:getcoat:
