Hey guys,
Just got a ticketmaster alert which said the DUKE was playing a gig in the Sugar Club in Dublin on September 29th. Tickets apparently went on sale last Tuesday 22/8, but there are none available now. Are they sold out? Anyone got a couple of spares lying around?

Really? Feck! I only saw the ad in Hotpress yesterday, I never read those ticketmaster alerts anymore. What time are doors? Shall have to be there early!
The Sugar Club is a great venue, love the atmosphere in there.
Oooh looking forward to this one!! :D

I dunno what time doors are at, i'm pretty sure its not sold out, since it wasn't announced really, and barely nayone here has even heard of it. the good folks at ticketmaster said there was still loadsa tix but some gigs you can only get tix at actual ticketmaster shop places. i'm gonna give that a try

HEy claire sorry bout the delay, shitty of me, i forgot bout this forum for a little while, had loadsa stupid stuff on my mind.

Anyway, yeah Damo on the night was so very very dissapointing, i felt so let down, it was the first time i saw him and had heard duch great things, as well as a few boot legs i have where he's on great form.

Anyway, ya got to have a few bad gigs, makes the good one (ie the duke gigs) even better.

Hmm yeah I still cant make up my mind about Damo. I love love love 'O' but christ how many years ago was that?! I guess I'll reserve judgement till I hear some new material. I will say one thing though-he is a very smart business man. Perhaps thats what makes me so sceptical? Sorry you had a bad gig but as you say, it makes you appreciate the amazing ones even more!

I'm bold I know for continually doing this but I'm gonna thwo it in cos up here in college...
If youre about on the 21st of this month, come on down to the Sugar Club for Peter Dorans album launch. Mr Maurice from this board is supporting him on the night so it promises to be a fantastic night of music and incase you need any more excitement.....I will be turning the tender age of 21 at midnight so you'll ahve to sink a few with us!
But the gig comes first and foremost! Drinkies afterwards!!
Let me know if youre about anyway :)

I'll actually be at Ross Nolbe in the olympia on the night in question. Sorry bout that. I willl of course be in the sugar club on the night of the 29th!

Sorry Ive been out of the loop for a few days! What with the madness of last weekend and trying to find a house to move into by saturday-man its a nightmare! Ok I know I'm only 21 and I look 16 but Christ I have never ever been late with my rent grrr! We've been screwed around by so many 'professional' estate agents never mind the private owners....sorry had to vent there a bit before I explode!

So yes providing Im not homeless by then I will be there grinning from ear to ear as per usual Dukey gig!

Guinness I got your cd its great, thanks so much. I promise once I have this housing thing sorted Ill send something up your way! Also Dutchess, I havent forgotten, I promised you 'Shining Light' and I shall deliver-hopefully sooner rather than later

Oh c'mere is it true Duke is doing an instore in Tower Records earlier that day? If so whats the story with the wristbands? Are they available first thing that morning or just before it all starts?

I haven't really heard anything about any wristbands but yes after I posted that yesterday I did recieve a very ironic email telling me tales of the tower records experience about to occur.

If they are giving out wristbands 'willy nilly' and claire, steve and I arnt there will you grab some for the clan?

Right now that I am sober and can think properly I shall get to this reply.

The sugar club was an awsome venue, the lighting and seating arrangment was like a cinema which all added to the atmosphere.

Both Claire and I met two wonderful people down there who kept us safe from the troubles of Dublin (I think) and I am sorry that I didnt really get to talking properly to both of you. The whole chit-chat thing isn't very good when first meeting someone, kind of gives a weird impression of what the conversation is about. We shall get down for a proper drink sometime Claire, promise!

Ended up walking about until 3.45 trying to find a hostel that would let us in before the rain started. Phew!

Extremely enjoyable night however the pics didn't come out very well...

Ok I had a fantastic night! I was a bit worried at first when it turned out I had to go on my own, I almost chickened out but then thought I had to go for the good of the music :)

Queueing up outisde on my lonesome I met a lovely guy who was also there on his own, thanks so much for coming over!! Then inside ended up bumping into more boggers from my part of the country, got great seats right in front of Duke and had a fantastic night. The venue was brilliant, the atmosphere was fantastic and the music was... well just WOW.

I thought i recognised a few faces from the whos who thread here but I was too shy to go over and say hello, sorry about that but I will next time I promise.
Anyway, it was an excellent night and met some lovely people. Pity about the missing faces, but there will always be more gigs!!

Thanks for an amazing night Duke! Well done and congrats.

Don't be shy to talk to anyone on this board... We are all extremely nice and if anything we'll just drink more because we've met you for the first time!

On the topic of drink... The Sugar Club had "NO GUINNESS" :!: :!: :!:

What was a person to do? :?

Oh and here's some pics, I wasn't really in the perfect state for great ones so you'll have to make do with these (Most of which are just the set up) to imagine what it was like for those who weren't there:

Heehee sorry this is the first time I've got near a computer!
How are ye guys?! Conor and Claire...it was so nice to meet you two and your friends aisling (?sorry?) and james..
Haha where did you end up?! Last time we saw you, you were heading for that dodgy chinese across the road from Whelans! Ye should have come in for a few, we could have introduced you to some more Dub-heads.
Guinness! You had my number why the hell didnt you call instead of trailing the streets for the night? I told ya you were more than welcome, anytime guys. I stupidly didnt take your number so I was waiting on you to call.
Anyway your shots came out pretty well...considering... I was listening back to my very bad recording of 'Carry on regardless' and all of a cudden theres this huge sinister and evil laugh (thats you guinness) as you arrive back from the bar with about 29 pints in each hand through the huge crowd having not spilled a drip! Legend!

As for Duke and co, man they sounded amazing! Its thr first time I've been treated to the 'full' band experience and wow!! Unreal- he just keeps getting better and better. How many standing ovations did they get?

Katiec you should have come over! Were you sitting right at the front, if so we were prolly all sitting on your toes anyway so ya should have just yelled :)

Sorry this reply is a bit all over the place, Im extremely late back from break so I gotto run...
Ciao

Yup, I think I was! You were sitting at the front on the floor (with a couch behind you). And I was sitting at one of the tables in the front row, right in front of Duke. Reason I saw you was that I randomly bumped into a ex-classmate that was sitting right next to you lot. I was waiting until I had a few drinks in me and then I was going to say hello after Dave G played but chickened out. Then at the end of the night I was 'gone all silly' and had stopped making any sense :P

Next time though, I promise!!

Hey Claire! Twas lovely to meet you too and of course Maurice! That was James and Aislings first time hearing the Duke and how impressed were they!

He was fantastic and I loved the venue, just a shame we weren't early enough to get seats! That Chinese, could have been a tad dodgy seeing as I haven't been well since we got back from Dublin! Thank you for the offer Claire at least we weren't roaming the streets all night hehe!

But all in all it was such an enjoyable nightand an outstanding gig :D :D

Haha Katiec that was us alright! Did you stick around in the Sugar Club for long afterwards or where did ya head? You living in Dublin yourself?

Claire, did ye actually find a place to stay in the end? I rem now, they were your 'Donegal friends' haha you did tell me that...a few times haha! Sorry we werent really in a mad party mood ourselves, as we said we literally just threw all of our gear into the new apt and legged it so we were wrecked after the week of home-searching. Next time though I promise we'll have a few more drinkies and join the madness.

Oh yeah we were walking down Grafton St later that night, prolly around 3ish and there was Chip out for a stroll! I wish I could have asked him what he thought of his fellow chessegrater player!!!

Sinecurea and Sneaky, I thought you guys were coming down too??

Fintan
02-10-2006, 12:32 pm
Yeah we eventually got this hostel, which at the time due to whatever state we were in I thought was heaven! But alas, the next morning I realised that there was a hole in our roof, the door didn't close proplerly and the room next to ours was full of ply-wood! Awk sure it all added to the experience! But by that time of the night I really didn't care I just needed sleep and as Conor said the rain didn't get us so it could have been worse!

How's the new house coming along?

Yes they were indeed and next time yes do have a few more drinkies so I don't seem so intoxicated!!

Just hung around for a while chatting to my ex class-mate (twas his first DS gig too) and then headed back to where I was staying. Im from Kerry, so was just up for the weekend to go to the gig. Ended up back at the house on my own watching crap TV and trying to figure out how to fix a broken toaster! (honestly I do have SOME friends though, I swear I dont go everywhere on my own!!)

So glad I decided to go to the gig in the end. Thanks for convincing me sinecurea! Im now officially addicted :)
