If anybody here's going look out for the "boy" with a brown shirt and tie with a strange red jacket thing as that would be me.

If you do spot me please say hello!

Sorry I didn't see your message otherwise I'd have kept an eye out! Did you enjoy the gig?

I was quite impressed by the venue - wasn't sure what to expect but it was quite elegant really - nice candelabra and mirrorball things on the ceiling and then the lovely kitsch glitter curtain backdrop. The sound was perfect.

Managed to get there just in time for both support acts - they were excellent. Maximilian Hecker - bit of a girly voice, but nice songs, on the melancholy side, and Foy Vance, who I was delighted to see as he's been mentioned before on the forum. I was v. impressed and bought one of his EPs.

The place filled up just before Duke took to the stage, thankfully, as it was looking a bit sparse for the support. (Trendy London audiences like to be late!). Excellent gig and nice to see/hear Ben Castle on clarinet and saxophone. Ben Hales and Paul Wilkinson were swapping between pedal steel and guitars and Chip was there of course. Set list: Everybody wants a little something, last night I nearly died, Brixton leaves, wake up Scarlett, I let you down, portrait, slip of a girl, no cover up, freewheel, salvation tambourine. Awesome encore with Ed Harcourt (another favourite of mine) joining Duke for Quiet revolutionary, which sounded amazing, and a cover of the Doors song People are strange (with Chip wearing a scary mask!).

Really good evening and I can't wait till the Divine Comedy at the Roundhouse now! (Seeing Ed Harcourt at the Bloomsbury Ballroom, and Scott Matthews at Dingwalls before then though :) )

Foy Vance is great... did you get his "Watermellon Oranges" Ep?

It does at times make gigs a little less atmospheric when the crowds show up late... but some prefer the "fashionably" late entrance.

Have you got a picture of this mask?

Hey yeah thanks for the review! Im dying to hear 'Quiet Revolutionary'.

So Chip is getting ready for Halloween early this year huh? Haha, Im curious too-what was the mask of?

I haven't had a chance to listen to the Foy Vance EP yet but I got the Live Sessions one as it had "Indiscriminate Act ..." on it which stood out in the live performance.

I did try and get a picture of the scary mask but it's not v. clear. It was one of those rubbery scary old man with long hair - at least I think so, maybe it was just bad stage lighting. Ha! ha! Not really, Chip, you know I don't mean it.... I'll try and post the photos later. If they're following Rufus Wainwright's example of the band dressing up for the encore, then I look forward to the blue glittery thongs and fairy wings!

There was a review of the gig in the new free London evening paper "Lite". One of my friends has kept it for me but I haven't seen it yet. Apparently, it was an excellent review and quite a big feature.

I've had a quick go at the "uploading images" thing, which is a bit technical for me. Thanks for your advice Guinness. Let's see if it works!

Ed Harcourt is in the top piccie and the scary mask is in the last photo but you can't see it too well! I'm sorry about the bad photos - I should have learnt to use my mum's digital camera beforehand or got closer but there were professional looking photographers right at the front and I was too intimidated!

Oooh nice pics! Cant make out the mask but maybe he will have it for the Sugar Club gig!
By the way, does anyone know if it will be the full band at this gig? Its a pretty big place so I assume the whole troup will be there but you never can tell...

As for the digital camera thing-trust me its much better than my one! Mine gives two optioins either put on the flash and you lose all the colour of the subject and consequently the atmosphere or...have a black picture. Oh dear...

The Sugar Club gig is listed as full band on the Tour Dates page, you lucky things.

Thanks for being kind about my photos, Claire. I took that camera to the Brixton gig too and took about 40 photos on what I thought was the right setting for "ambient lighting". They all came out totally red and black - v.artistic looking! Only 1 came out which I'd put on proper flash by accident:

I'm well away with Photobucket now, thanks Guinness!

Those pics are great! They can usually give more of a "real" feel to how a gig really is rather than it beingl polished up by the pro photographers (*That wasn't a jibe at anyone on this forum by the way*)

And I'm glad you got photobucket working! In my next issue I will show you how to dismantle a blade server and reassemble it with the help of a bananna peel! (I am glad you got it working though)

I think I may have seen you, if I'm right you're the one that helped me and my sister find the venue...

Also, very sorry to Helen, my head seems to be obscuring some of those photos!

Hmmm....

I thought someone had got my password there for a minute....and actually had to sit and think...my sister?! huh??

Quite obviously though you're a whole different person from me though...I checked....

True story.

OK, I know I'm posting this on the wrong thread now, but I'm just correcting my earlier mistake. I listened to the Foy Vance EP last night and Indiscriminate Act isn't the track I was after (I was misinformed!). It was a song that he said would be the next single and I can't remember the words now but I'm sure there were some Hallelujahs in it. Still, it's a great EP anyway...

Helen - Oooh you were just in front of me at the front on the left for most of it weren't you?

Sian - That was indeed me! :D *waves*

I'm not sure - I left my mate right at the back cos he's 6 foot 1 and can see over the crowd, while I snuck a bit nearer the front. Hope I wasn't in your way - I think I'm short enough that I don't offend too many people though by standing in front of them!
