Errrr phew!! We are not the same person afterall Siano... I HATE Maniac 2000 with a passion. actually i just hate ALL dance music with a passion but especially that one cos it was in the charts for sooooo long.

Must think this over.... it helps that im listening to 80s hour on VH1 classic, surely ill get some great ideas. I better not admit to what I was just dancing around the room to though!!

erm really? Do we actually have to be honest here??
Ok *takes deep breath* I used to be madly in love with none other than...Peter Andre and knew every one off his songs off by heart...then as I grew a bit older my undying (cept it did die) passion was for Brian Kennedy. God I loved the man....right up until recently enough when Maurice and I passed him in Temple Bar and he didnt take his eyes off Maurice! Not a single glance in my direction!! *sobs!* :!: :!:

ah the whole 'i've been sitting by the phone hoping you'd call' rap!

apparently, allegedley, perhaps, maybe, reportedly peter andre's 'mysterious girl' was covered by a relatively unknown and unremembered acoustic act sometime in 2002 in auntie annies :)

Oh nooo!! I've just always had a hatred for that man, although I am guilty of knowing every single word to all the Boyzone songs, crying when I saw Ronan in person and of course had to impersonate his voice whenever I sang any of his lines!

RIght I have been avoiding this thread cos I'm too embarrassed to share but these songs.. but ill post one.

I really hate that Iike "I will always love you", the DOLLY version ONLY.

It is a nice song though. I have nice memories associated with it too. My one and only time singing Karoke. In Break for the Border in Leicester Square, we were out for my boyf's birthday and didnt realise that we had stumbled upon a Karoke night hosted by a transvestite. Ohh it was hilarious. I was never so drunk. My sister in law and her partner put my name down to sing this song as a birthday pressie. I could have killed her. I was very much anti-sop at the time. To this day I dont know why I got up, but we did win 2 magnums of champagne for it! So happy days!

The true confessions theme is catching.
When I saw the thread I thought about what I could choose and ......b****r me..other ppl already chose some of them :)
They're from 20 odd years ago when I had a friend who was several years younger than me and since I knew his parents too a big seduction scene was completely out of the question. Many opportunities but although the electricity was most certainly there and we both felt it we only stayed good friends.
I used to play Total Eclipse of the Heart over and over to myself.......weeping into my glass of Hock.....'We're living in a powder keg and giving off sparks' (Is it hot in here or is it just me?)
We used to run discos for the youth club we organised and one night we shared the last slow dance to True....was that Spandau Ballet?...so that has to the second song.
Then when I moved to another county and I knew I would probably not see my friend much more it was Dolly Parton singing I will always love you and we shared our first and only kiss which was the sweetest kiss of my life......I'm filling up now........
Finally I adore The Walker Brothers last hit No Regrets which has to be the perfect pop song and arrangement AND has the voice of the gorgeous Scott Walker AND some fantastic air guitar.
Just call me Cleopatra - the Queen of Denial.

Wow! I'm impressed with that. I'm v. proud to say that I bought Grace when it first came out after seeing Jeff Buckley's picture on an album review and admiring the military jacket! And I got to see him play in London... :D

The Bonnie Tyler track is Holding out for a Hero.....I thought it was mid-80s.
Listened to Grace whilst cooking tea - I know, I know! - for the first time ever.

Indeed it is the same song Scott.
Helen, you deserve the Wooden Spoon of the Week Award :D
I feel the compulsion to stir things up a bit more and say I really like a lot of Chris Rea songs - Fool if you think it's over, Wired to the Moon to name only 2.
Am I a hopeless case?

why do you hate me like this?

we've never even met.

the closest i got was when i went to visit sin-e (the cafe where he recorded his first live album) when i was in NYC.

would have gone to see him live, but i was only 13 when he died and my musical ears hadnt developed beyond the likes of green day and the foos.

OK, I'd better accept my wooden spoon award (thanks Jan!) and Lander, please accept my profuse apologies for winding you up. I'm sure we'd get on fine if we met - you've obviously got exceptional taste in music if you're into Jeff AND Duke Special...

And I've never been near Sin-e ... :(

Bit late here I know but..... deep breath...

Never Ending Story by Limahl and Xanadu by Olivia Newton John. :D

I must also confess that when I saw the Human League last December it really made my night when they did Together in Electric Dreams.

I always say I have an eclectic taste in music and that continues to be my defence!

thesneakybandit
14-02-2007, 1:25 pm
surely xanadu and together in electric dreams cannot be classified as guilty pleasures... two of the greatest tracks of the mid 80's right there... maybe only beaten by kenny loggins' footloose!!

i think this would be the thread where it's safest to say...

how great is the new sophie ellis bextor single!!!

Us educated types might not classify them as guilty pleasures but I've had a few weird looks when I've admitted to this in the past. However, as the owner of a Dollar and Bucks Fizz album (I was a child, honest) Xanadu is the least of my problems!
