View Full Version : Whats your favourite "Duke Period"
Now that the Duke is becoming a great big superstar, just wondered what peoples favourite "duke period" was. When I first became blessed with his music, was at the Aqualung gig at St.James church in picadilly which i think was late 2003 - early 2004. He was playing songs like 'kill me quickly please' and 'wake up scarlett'. Every time I saw him play in the next 18 months was just him and a piano....and there was so much power and emotion in the songs that id leave the gigs totally spellbound.! That was my favourite time. And was the time i actually got to meet him and we were chatting about the incredible guitar skills of Rodrigo y Gabriella on the stairs at Spitz venue.
Very happy to see his success blossoming!
So....favourite times, favourite shows, favourite songs.........what are they?

I wish more than a lot of things that I had gotten to know of DS waaaay before I did. At the minute I am only properly discovering the "Your Vandal" and I would have loved to have been there when there were only a smattering [wat a word] of people in a room with his music filling it.
At the minute...fave songs:
Low
Regarding the moonlight in Eastbourne
Kill me quickly, please
No cover up
Love is a series of scars.
and I have only seen him 3 times so :( I am too much of a DS babby to have a definitive fave show right now!
Love is a series of scars.....OMG toooooooo beautiful. My overly emotional rants in previous posts will demonstrate my love of this song.
Definately feeling no cover up. Very very beautiful melody, kinda gets back to how I personally love the Duke the most.......his voice and a piano.!!!!
If an artist can strike the heart with just the most simple of arrays....then he truly is an artist, and Ive found the small acoustic gigs to be emotional powerhouses.

Peter Wilson can strike a chord with me like no other musican can, I have no idea where the power of his songs come from. I have never known for me to like everyone of an artist's songs and everyday I have a new favourite because everyday another song speaks to me in a whole other way.
Ok its late...[/slushy sychophantic cack]

Awh Sian well said. Some days I can listen to a song again and it can completely reflect my mood and I'll take something from the song that has never appeared to me before. I love songs and artists that can do that.

Music is my passion, and it influences me in a way very very few other things in my life can do. I have heard lots of songs/pieces of music in my life that touch me deeply, and evoke a sense of something truly wonderful. Very very rarely have I come across an artist whose music/art can move me with every song, every word of every song - Peter does this.
His voice is hypnotic and beautiful. His music and lyrics are touching and evocative.
It truly is music for the soul.
One of my favourite Art songs has the following words
"Music, source of all gladness/Heals Thy sadness"
Thats what I think of Duke. So in answer to the OP's question.. I could never have a favourite. I adore every song. Sure I have my favourites.. but no favourite "period". I think the evolution of his music reflects growth as a musician as well as on a personal level.. and for that reason, I think my favourite Duke period is ALL of it!
ps: thank you so much to Steve for introducing me to this
For me it has to be now.............see below........
