Nothing like good old quotes and lyrics eh.. we all have our favs.. and favs for different moods...

Fancy sharing em... I used to always have a quote for the day... usually its song lyrics (been Duke lyrics alot lately)

Today's quote for me is:

"Perhaps we all give the best of our hearts uncritically, to those who hardly think about us in return"
T.H. White

Yesterday's classic was:
Little things I should have said and done, I just never took the time.

this is a silly quote from a girl in school!
in the odysey talking to a bouncer
"omi goodness are you scottish?"
bouncer says "no i'm welsh"
Naomi replies "I love foreign people"

this is a lovely quote i found

" Truly loving another means letting go of all expectations. It means full acceptance, even celebration of another's personhood"
Karen Casey

i need to watch things die from a distance,
vicariously i live while the whole world dies
you all need it too dont lie.

there's a hefty shot of reality from tool, who i saw in dublin last night, making me far, far better than you.

Yesterday was a funny frustrating kind of a day, where Jeff Buckley and Morrissey were appropriate;
"Too young to hold on and too old to just break free and run"
"I was looking for a job, and then I found a job - And heaven knows I'm miserable now"

Today the world is my oyster, and it is most definitely Dukes "Look at all the colours at my fingertips"

I'm sooo fickle...

And now for some cheese:

When all the world is a hopeless jumble
And the raindrops tumble all around
Heaven opens a magic lane
When all the clouds darken up the skyway
There's a rainbow highway to be found
Leading from your window pane
To a place behind the sun
Just a step beyond the rain

''Life is just an endless rehearsal for a play thats never to be played...''

Thought that was a brilliant line I just remembered it!

"Pop is the junk food of our aesthetics"
-Steve Stockman

I'm doing research for my dissertation tnite and these have got me thinking (pensive city tnite!)...

"A person's self does not exist except in relation with other people"

"Undo it, take it back, make everyday the previous one until I am returned to the day before the one that made you gone"
-Rapoport
No idea why this was even included in one of my books!!

"Every relationship contains the seeds of its own possible destruction"

"Life is unfinished business which is devoted to the solving of dilemmas that are the basis of human thought"

This comes from Mr. Damon Gough (a.k.a. Badly Drawn Boy):

''I will take you as you are, please accept me as I am''.

I think it's really just saying, be yourself, which I think is something that a lot of people need to learn instead of following a crowd.

Yeh, I totally agree.
I know a guy who is really into dance music. We had an arguement about wheter it was more difficult to be a DJ or a musician in a band.
He decided to 'prove' his point using a DVD of some guy called DJ Testio or tisto or something.
Anyway this DJ pressed a button and then started waving his hands around!!
How is that more skill full than what real musicians (such as the Duke) do!!!
Also, apart from the music being sh*t, there's ther lyrics. These lyrics normally seem to go something like ''I shoot people''(in rap music) or ''I want to have s*x with you''(in dnace music). I mean, when you compare those guys to the really great lyricists such as Bob Dylan and John Lennon, there's no comparison!!!

ok, sorry. Rant over now.

I liked that rant James!;) Agree heartily.
My cousin is really into that DJ too and Dj Cammy. I think that's his name....i don't really care.
No matter how hard i try to understand how people can like this music and think they're talented instead of someone like Duke, Bruce or Mr. Buckley is way beyond me. Never ever shall i get it. Madness.....

No need to apologise James. I heartily agree. I always find it hilarious when the term IDM is used. "Intelligent Dance Music". I'm sorry, but what exactly is there about it that makes it, or the people who create it, intelligent? An oxymoron if I've ever heard one...

EDIT - Apprently this is a hearty forum :p

theres also the: ''I only like dance music at discos'' thing, which is stupid too. I've always hated discos(mostly because of the music). however, when i was in the gaeltacht we had Céilís every night and I loved them! Irish traditional music is much more enjoyable to dance to!(plus the added bonus of dancing with one girl, instead of these big groups of people at discos.:P)

im sorry everyone but i have to say, there are some very talented rappers, i listen to the words, hence me pickin out that one line. there are some sh*t rappers i agree, but not all of them are like that. i think that kanye west is a very talented writer if nothing else. i know thats a bit contentious, but i do respect him. he does not have songs about shooting people as far as i know, there is very few if any curse words and i think that if you read the lyrics of some of the songs that you might see where im coming from. not all of kanyes songs are good, there are however lines that you can pick out and use as a guideline.

i have to say it was strange being at duke special on saturday night and then fifty cent on monday night, but sure i like basically anything. dance music- no! DJ tiesto is famous for adding a dance beat to a classical piece of music. that is not talent. writing songs with meaningful words- be them in the style of the duke or kanye west - i believe is.

Sorry, I didn't mean to give the impression that I thought all rap music was shite. Personally its not my musical taste, but I can appreciate that some rappers are great lyricists. Good lyrics are what a lot of rap music is about. On the subject of IDM and most dance stuff in general, I do feel that you could stick a monkey in front of a keyboard and it could do judst as good a job. Again, just my opinion, I do appreciate that everyone is entitled to their own! :)

Yeah James i avoid clubs as much as possible. Gigs, gigs, gigs all the way! Sometimes i just have to go once in a while to stop people annoying me about coming out and asking me and so on. But i can't stand them. Plus i don't drink. Wait.... rephrase, i'll have a bottle or two of West Coast Cooler but never get drunk. Freaks me out that you'd be out of control and wouldn't ba able to remember anything. Anything could happen. And when you are sober in a crowd of people falling around the place and giving you extremely sweaty hugs it's not much fun. There's also the thing of alcohol leading to vomiting which i have a big phobia of ever since 2 people got sick on me!:o Urgh...*shudder* Last time i was at a club was the debs!!! Occassionally they'll play a good song. Like Queen or Blur's Song No. 2. But it's a rare occurence!

Much rather sit in with the family on a Friday watching Jonathan Ross and Jools and enjoyin a sensible drink and a bit of slagging and fun with everyone! Now that's a good night!:D

Here here, can't beat a bit 'o thee oul fiddley diddley ;). After Duke's set in Culdaff we moved into the bar next door and there was an excellent traditional session in full flow and it was a great wind down to the gig.

As for the ''I only like dance music at discos'' that is most likely a drug related response, specifically a Class A drug beginning with the letter 'e'
