Was anyone else at the Bell x1 gig in Mandela Hall on Wednesday night? Really great gig. They dedicated a song to Duke and talked about his appearance on Jools!

Your beautiful madness
My beautiful grief
Your dreams are my torture
Your dreams my relief
Ahhh cant beat the old Bell 11 eh :P
Old skool on this, but been following em since their Damien days and Neither Am I. I preordered Flock thinking it was going to be even better than Music In Mouth...
ahhh see what happens music when it gets popular
PLEASE DUKE --- NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO never change the essence of Duke (not that you ever would)

I have "Flock" and ordered MIM from blahdvd about a year ago and still ahvn't got it...
But some songs on flock are fantastic!
Still to this day the thing that puts me off them is seeing them in the Lisburn Arts Centre and having "rules" that the security guard told me were at the discretion of the band...

Eh? Gonna have to go on a little bit of a rant now I'm afraid; I have a fairly unhealthy obsessional love of Bell X1... First off, bettering MIM would be nigh on impossible so if that's what you were hoping for you were always going to be disappointed, but nevertheless Flock is a fantastic album. Can understand if you've been there since juniper that their sound has moved on from those days, but they still have their essential 'essence' far as I'm concerned. I think Trampoline and First Born in particular have a very distinct juniper-esque signature. Most importantly Pauls lyrics are still so clever, well observed and often really funny, and the melodies still range easily from jangly rock to heartbreak and are unpredictable in the best kindof way. K rant over. It's such a travesty they're not bigger over here *sigh*

You are certainly right that Pauls lyrics have that added bit of humour in them. From songs like, Rocky Took a Lover to Bad Skin Day.
Their music on a whole is "feel good" music for the better part... but when its deep and dark.... it is very deep and dark!

Yeah I love the black humour, recon they must be an interesting bunch of fellas :) What kindof rules were they at that gig Guinness? Only I can't imagine them being arsey about that kindof stuff... :?
I have an unhealthy obsession with the Bellies too, have been to every UK gig bar one (was sick...they said afterwards they nearly didn't play as it didn't feel right!) and quite a few in Ireland. I know them from the early days too and I don't think they've lost their essence or anything but they've definitely matured as songwriters and grown as a live band. Why/how they're not big over here is a mystery to me...and don't get me started on The Frames either! However, the older I've gotten ( :( ) the more I've learnt to not to care so much about such things, just be a happy if a band make enought money to keep going and produce great music, sod the success, if people can't find the good stuff, more fool them!

Yeah I think Flock is better than MIM. I think their fourth album if it gets a UK release will make the top ten, no questions asked folks.

Totally agree Yvonne - them at their best and well worth waiting for
They did an acoustic version of "The Great Defector" on the radio during the week. Now that was truly special.

Went to see them in Derry on Thursday - Wow what a performance!! Mr Noonan has such stage presence & what a voice......
Was a bit disappointed they didn't sing " Light catches your face", but he sang " Next to you", which more than made up for it!
The last song was " I'll see your heart", where at the end he came in with " Into my arms" Nick Cave, it was so beautiful.......
If you can go & see these Guys live on this tour, please do it! You won't be disappointed!!;)
Here's a lnk for some of my photos from the night!
