I recently bought Songs from the Deep Forest which I LOVE.
Which Duke album etc should I buy next?

Incidently, I was reading the "What's your favourite song" thread, and I would have to say I'm torn between No Cover Up and Portrait, but I saw lots of songs I haven't heard yet (such as Low) - so which release are they from?

Cheers me dears!

I think this has come up before, as people are somewhat between places as to whether or not to buy the older stuff which has some of the songs of SFTDF has on it.

If I were you, I would go for the older stuff as it gives you the basis of where the newer stuff came from without all the wind instruments and extra wee bits. Although not all the stuff from SFTDF is on AIG (see above for notation meanings).

The Ep's are accually the other album. They are what make the album up. The only EP that isn't on an album is "Your Vandel." Go for AIG and you'll be buying the Duke's first two EP's in one go! ;)

As for the bonus edition... It doesn't exist im afraid. You can only get those two extra songs on the itunes d/lable version. Just got to trawl your way through itunes...

The main two you really need to get are "Adventures In Gramophone" and "Your Vandal".

i'm trying to get hold of your vandal and adventures in gramaphone too, but no luck yet here in sunny Plymouth. Anyone know of an Irish source?

If you're lucky, Duke may be selling YV at his shows (not sure about AiG tho).

if your gig is late on, maybe someone can ask the man to put one aside?

You're at Bristol aren't you, I can ask at Brum, but that's only 2 days before. But i'll ask, all the same, if no-one else does/has.

So, are you saying (as you no doubt own LM & MVH), that you're prepared to give your copy of AiG to our freind in the south?

Nope, I thought not!

thesneakybandit
25-01-2007, 2:16 pm
not MY copy as it's a signed one. i have got two copies of 'your vandal' though :D

EDIT: and don't confuse me with your south! the south constitutes dublin, cork and limerick... plymouth on the other hand is "the mainland"

I would never confuse you with our south Sneaky, one is a large mass with an average iq of less than 100...and the other is our south..... :D

I thank you, i'm here all week!

Ta for the suggestions, as we speak, the dear wife is trawling the shops in plymouth and asking if any would be able to obtain said titles. If no joy there i wil try the suggested avenues.

Have you seen Straw Dogs?? Cornwal really is like that. I'm a northerner really, from Carlisle, settled in Plymouth cos i was mainly based here in my navy career.

How incredibly dim of me not to find the CDs here first. No luck in the shops so i have indeed ordered the EPs from this very site.

There are some very odd people in Cornwall and a surprising amount of unpleasant crime, it is a very poor and depressed area despite the tourism income. Most of the people are lovely though :)

If I see AiG is on sale at the shows, I'll get Peter to put one aside Al.

Yeah, what's the deal with AIG being out of stock EVERYWHERE? I got a copy a good while ago and I really have to say it is utterly butterly fantismo. I'm tellin people to get it and they can't. I don't really *do* itunes, yeah the concept is good but I like to have the disc in my hand and smell the sleeve and look at the artwork. Am I mental?

Adventures has been deleted as it was essentially 2 of the EPs combined. We have reverted to having 3 separate EPs so as not to confuse what the debut album is, ie, songs from the deep forest :)

at this stage in your career, and the radio and general media coverage,I think a re-release would be wise. On its own merits its a great album. You don't slow me down etc.

Adventures is the album I would choose as it captures the Duke Special sound of just Peter and Chip the first time we heard them a year ago. It's a magnificent album with every song a gem.
Your Vandal is superb too.
Yeah, I'd go along with AiG, Your vandal EP and SftdF as essentials.
It's what I've got anyway cos I can't afford to be ordering stuff on the internet and my PC won't download tunes unless I've got 6 hours to spare :(

But the Ep's that are on AIG are able to be bought from the stalls at Duke Special gigs are they not?

Probably none left at this late stage, but even when AIG was released you could still get them from the Duke's previous managment (Badger) by post. That's how I recieved mine.

At the most recent gigs in Newcastle: in May last year all that was for sale was AiG, Your Vandal EP and the vinyl boxed sets of SftdF, in October there was next to nothing available........dunno what it's like at other gigs! (Long story connected to SftdF CD, but if the person who bought the LAST one is reading this - it was mine, bought and paid for but I left it on the stand for people to look at - and they sold it again!!) A misunderstanding but I had to trawl over to HMV to get a copy later that week.
Who has the say in what is for sale on the merch. stand anyway?
Interested to know. There should be loads of stuff for sale as that attracts buyers like a magnet.
It's like when I'm selling food for my friend at farmers' markets - if iI have lots of cakes I sell lots but when I'm down to one of something it's like pulling teeth to sell it ( but I usually do :) ) Ah the power of persuasion :D

You left your CD on the stand? :!: :!: :!:

Why would you do such a thing?

I had the same problem with my poster from the sugar club gig in Dublin... got way too drunk as usual and left it lying somewhere!

Going back to the original question, you should definatley download the portrait EP.
Fantastic stuff. Maps and low live, sends hairs standing on end. The pure emotion in Peters voice and then the humble "thanks very much"...Unmissable

Old git I completely agree! There's something about that particular version of 'Low' even the audiences response you almost feel as if you're there! And 'Maps' aswell, two brilliant songs!!

Thanks for the kind offer Hal. I've ordered the 3 EPs from the shop which should cover it, if theres a problem, i'll get back to you, but they should arrive soon. I havent got an ipod but my son could download stuff for me if i want anything more.
Its a shame AIG is unavailable, the title itself is ingenious and appealing.

Thanks all for the advice.

PM if you want a "sample" copy to listen to...

But the 3 Ep's should cover everything if not more than a copy of AIG
