Found a great piece in the Irish News today of this fantastic double bass player.

For those of you who knew the Duke before he got signed onto V2 recordings you will remember this man with his uber cool beard and cheshire cat smile from the back of the stage.

Jackie is pushing 70 at this time and is leading his own jazz and blues band called "Giant Steps and Essence."

As for playing with the Duke, he had this to say about his feeling towards the dreadlocked musician:

I think he's absolutely, amazingly brilliant. He's a very, very talented songwriter whose songs are very well constructed musically and not like anybody else's - you can't busk them, you have to learn them. And he's brilliant dealing with an audience, got the voice of an angel and sings in a Belfast accent - you can't get much better than that!

For those of you who have not heard Mr.Flavelle in the flesh he is playing tonight in the "Town and Country" in Magherafelt or tomorrow afternoon in "Cutters Wharf". If you fall flat on your face for him he also plays every Sunday in Cafe Mono from 6 - 8.30pm
