uh hello. i am awaiting the arrival of duke on the airwaves of radio one. unfortunately i am listening to bloc party and the kaiser chiefs on a constant loop though.

i didn't make it to the virgin instore gig as some of us have proper jobs to go to :) although ironically i ended up sick in bed and not at work either.

my musical tips for the day are two of my more recently "acquired" albums.

"workhorse" by m brightest diamond - who put on a fantastic live show in belfast last night... and also...

"seperation sunday" by the hold steady!

that's all for now!

thank you for replying.

i only wish the speakers on the computer would work! this place is gay i hate it no radio either!!!!!
anyway i have never heard of the two bands in which u mentioned. but as u r a fan of duke u must have great taste in music so i therefore trust that the bands r very good.
:D
im all in to my rod stwert at the moment he is pretty kik ass he does the great american songbook justice!
r u in to any of the old blue eyes era?

if we're talking ole blue eyes as in sinatra then i would say yes, there are a few great tracks by a few great artists out there. once you get past the "new york new york" "come fly with me" and other obvious hits there's not a lot worth listening to... i guess those guys were the generic indie bands of their day. sammy david jr is vastly under-rated, especially tracks like "you're gonna love yourself in the morning".

rod stewart has had his moments. in many ways when i think of rod stewart i think of david bowie. there have been some stunning highs in his career and some altogether shocking bad moments too. compare the mandolin riffing of john peel on "maggie may" or the work he did with ronnie wood in the faces with the horrendousness of "da ya think i'm sexy" or anything surrounding that pink suit atlantic crossing era!

favourite rod stewart tracks du jour would be "handbags and gladrags" or his cover of tom waits' "walzing mathilda".

haha bet you wish you hadn't got me started talking about music!

i love talkin music!
i have to say i hate that song "walzing matilda" its just werid.
i love his version of "till there was you" very enjoyable

yes mr jr was very underated, wat a singer.
i prefer all the dean martin gear to mr jr though. "thats amore" :d cant beat it at a sing along :D lol

who r u listining to in terms of contempory rock bands i.e razorlight, killers, ect

contemporary rock bands you say! *shudders*

the last decent contemporary rock bands were in 1994 when oasis and blur were going head to head and weezer had only just started going off the rails.

i suppose i would say the hold steady, guillemots, arcade fire and stuff like that...

if we're talking charts then i don't have much time for anything in the top 40 although i'm pleasantly surprised by how good jamie t and just jack's albums are!

i heard both of these jokes from up and coming singer songwriter sensation laura stevenson last night...

Q: a nova car with 4 spides in it drives off a cliff... what's the tragedy?
A: a nova has 5 seats!

Q: two spides jump off a cliff, who wins?
A: society!

PS. i don't think i've managed to stay awake long enough to hear an entire razorlight song. i nearly made it the whole way through "somewhere else" once. i heard they were a really big deal. but they turned out to be nothing at all!

fair nuf

i quite liked this joke

Q: What happens if you sing country music backwards?
A: You get your job and your wife back.

it says alot about country n western very tru though.
lol

is there any country n western stars that ur into the only one i had any time for is and was shinia twain and ven that says somethin.

i had time for shania twain... about two and a half minutes of one of her early singles then i got real bored real fast. i wouldn't even classify her as a country singer. more just another plastic pop-tart with a shouthern drawl and a big hair-metal producer husband. that's a frightful combination no matter what way you look at it.

van on the other hand is a complete legend, a genre transcending superstar and someone who this country of ours should be truly proud of. unfortunately i think his "country phase" has been one of the weakest to date. you can't beat those early acoustic bluesy new york sessions. check out "astral weeks" and "moondance" for how a great album should be done!

i don't really understand why people get so arsey about country music. it's where it all began. rock'n'roll right through to rap all started with country music. you can't get much better storytellers than the true legends of country music... i mean, hank williams, johnny cash, kenny rogers, patsy cline... those guys and girls could bring a story home and evoke more emotion in a simple melody and three chord sequence than many other artists ever could.

these young pretenders today have a lot to learn from country greats! do you think eminem, 50cent etc could get away with some of the songs they do if johnny cash hadn't got up 50 years ago and ranted "i shot a man in reno, just to watch him die!"

country music... gangsta rap from simpler times!

Agreed Mr Sneaky...I don't know why there is such a stigma attatched to listenin to a bit of C + W? I was raised on it and still love some artists that you mentioned above. The newer breed of country stars have a lot to learn...altho I have to admit I like that Carrie Underwood girl ;)

Can't believe I am getting paid to sit here for 2 hours! (Answering phones!!!!) Amazing...

workin' nine to five, what a way to make a living
barely gettin by, it's all takin' and no giving
they just use your mind and they never give you credit
it's enough to drive you crazy if you let it

i love that old song. but this is what drives me crazy! Y the F*** do the rave up amzing songs! i.e "working nine to five" , they even raised up the jonnhy cash classic "ring of fire" ihate it the originals r amaozng leave them the way they are.
now i will admit there is one ok mabey two remixed songs that i like i.e "walk this way"
areosmith and run dmc (even though there not even nearly c+w) but still y ruin music by puttin a spidy beat over hte top of it!!!!!!

i had to let that out of my system!
