First of all Duke, thank you for another great 'event' at the Oran Mor and then again at Sloan's Pub in Glasgow. I don't want to call your performances 'gigs', it just does not give your performance justice.

I was the big baldy guy with the purple jacket that has already asked you this question at Sloans after you finished playing, which is, would you consider releasing an acoustic studio album. Just you and the piano playing all the songs that everyone calls out for at your concerts?

I'm no record exec but I think it would be a very popular release. I would buy two copies and listen to them at the same time...okay, I'm taking that too far, but you know what I mean.

Cheers

Great idea Dessie - the attraction of live music is that we all like to hear variations of our favourite songs. The joy of the Broken Van Benefit was the simplicity and purity of simple piano and voice.

I hereby suggest Duke records two mono albums but each album has the correct stereo balance for left and right ears.

Ha ha! See? Laughing out loud again GG. Problems might arise with the use of 4 speakers connected to 2 turntables/amps tho. And what if you put the LPs on the wrong way round? Dukely Disaster!

Knock yourself out baby! (Is it okay if I call you baby?) I call everyone 'baby', even my male friends...okay maybe just my best friends that understand me. Can't be too careful in this crazy unreasonable PC world we are creating for ourselves.

Nah, I don't mind at all. In fact I am often the one being reprimanded/ridiculed for calling people by pet names!

Pet names are good. It's a sign of affection. We all just need to relax a bit.

Great idea! I think artists should release more Live recordings for cheaper.

I am very much in favour of this idea.

I disagree. I'm deaf in my left ear. 100%

GO MONO!

It's a good idea alright.

Matt - the goalposts are changed where you're involved. You get a normal stereo album but you have to sit next to the famously deaf-in-one-ear Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys and together you will get the proper stereo effect.

I need to jump back in here. The acoustic album for me as I've said already would preferably be a studio recorded album. I don't really see the point of 'live albums'. Saying that I've got both Jackson Browne acoustic live albums, but I didn't know they were live until I got them home and played them. I like listening to them but the audience clapping is just over the top and becomes annoying. If you want live, go to the concert and take part as a member of the audience.

I certainly agree that an acoutic studio recording would be the best for Duke alone at the piano. However, the live show recordings that I think would be much appreciated by fans would be directly recorded from the soundboard which takes the direct feed from the instruments and stage microphones. This does pick up audience reaction as heard on stage, but it is relatively muted and can easily be faded in/out on editing. Initially, I would like Duke to pick his favourite live show recordings ("Dukes' Live Specials"?) to sell to fans. As the run number would be small, these could not really be made cheaper than a regular CD, but fans would have a record of some of the live atmosphere and the satisfaction of knowing that their hard-earned was helping to support their favourite artist. :innocent:

Hear hear MrFizzy, I totally agree that selected live albums would be wonderful. (Sloans!;) We can dream!) In fact I don't mind hearing Duke's audience reaction as it is often so much part of the event. We all know how he enjoys 'audience participation'.
Anyway, we need something to keep us going between tours!

But we'd have to be explaining the sound we hear to eachother the whole time...!

Oh. Now that would be cool.

I think live albums are fab. I love hearing the audience so enjoying his music. Sloans was the ultimate for me, how one man can hold a room full of people so entranced with just his voice and a piano, whilst drinking 3 drinks (!!!) and making everyone laugh beats me. Duke's voice seems to work with any sort of instrument backing but it's always the rawness that appeals to me. Of course it helps if you were there and can chuckle when you hear your friend laughing all the time!!

I certainly agree that the atmosphere at Sloans was very special and would have been ideal for a direct and simple live recording showcasing Duke's talent.
I was also very impressed to find what a smart guy and how spontaneously funny he is. I've seen him deal with all kinds of live incidents on stage with "off the cuff" humour. Bit off message, but I was wondering whether with a bit of script writer support we might hope to see the "Duke Special and friends" TV show?

An acoustic album would be great with Duke and piano. Not sure about 'live albums', though anything with Peter's voice on it would be ok with me.

The Sloan's concert would probably be good as a live recording with the banter etc. A bigger venue might lose the buzz / atmosphere.
Anyway my original point was querying the possibility of a 'studio' acoustic album not the pros and cons of live recordings.

P.S. MandyK, my remark about participating as a concert goer etc was not meant to sound so dismissive. xxx
