1.Who do you think would win a musical duel Foy Vance or George Michael?

2.What in your opinion are essential attributes to becoming a successful musician?

1. Foy. George has no talent!

2. Skill. Passion. Knowing the right people. Gigging like crazy!

I'm sorry folks, but George Michael has written many times a greater song than Foy has, from what I've heard of Foy. Great artist altogether and great lyrics to boot. Listen "Mother's pride":

NOT the official video, by the way.

Deva - I think it's time you and me got our Foy on and did some schoolin'...

Oh she already tried. She crashed and burned.
As a man however, I actually listen to Foy's music, I don't just get bedazzled by his eyes! :p

Ah, well, different story altogether then (they are pretty dreamy though, no?!). Not that this means we won't *keep* trying :)

Difficult one for me to answer.

I've always hated George Michael's material and his sappy commerciality nonsense, but I also think he's got a really great voice (not that I actually LIKE it).

Foy is clearly one of the nicest men in the business but I saw one of those 10-minute programmes on him on Channel Four about a year ago and every single song left me stone cold or irritated.

So, the new question seems to be not who would win in regards to Foy v. GM, but who would win between GG/Stephen v. Mandy/Deva :P

Haven't heard this in ages. Just listened and had a cry. One of my sons is leaving home to join the RAF gunners in August :( I agree with oscar wilde's sentiments.

Just no comparison in my opionion..... Foy's the only other artist apart from Duke & David Ford that have the ability to move me & make me connect with their music......

Here's one of my favourite Foy songs, I challenge anyone to watch this & not be moved.......:)

I did not monumentally fail as you can't force someone to like something they initially don't like:) In turn you failed in George Michael conversion. I was supposed to laugh throughout that clip right?:p:whistle:
I would also like to point out that my musical tastes aren't purely based notions of attraction of said musicians (although always an added bonus:D) but on how the music makes me feel.
I'm not denying that George Michael is a good artist. His songs are well constructed and very intelligent lyrically yet nothing strikes me or initiates a strong response when I hear his material. I can see the technicalities and composition techniques he uses which produce good pop songs and why he's had the success that he's had.

On a personal note I prefer smaller artists as I like the sense of intimacy involved in listening to their music and seeing them live which further projects how I would use music as a means coping and dealing with issues that life throws at everyone. although I've continuously studied varying aspects of music, for me to fully enjoy it I need to take the technicalities away and enjoy it for what it is.

In contrast not all music I listen to serves any emotional importance. if I was becoming emotionally attached to Frank Zappa or Ian Dury lyrics I might begin to worry:)
I did have Freedom stuck in my head all day so that is one George Michael song I like and maybe at a push Faith. Oh no! Videos are on the very cheesy side :p

(Whew...glad Deva finally read this and didn't clobber me for dragging her into what could have turned into the epic Battle of the Boardies 2009! :) )

The only way to compare the two songs and artists would be for each to sing the other's song acoustically in a closed room. Everything else is just personal interpretation.
xx
And Duke would say.....?

^ I'd like to see George pick up his guitar and sing, on his own, live, in front of a crowd and get the same respect and awe as Foy.

I'd also like to see foy prance about in george michael style outfits and sing crappy, synthasised pop songs... simply so I could take the piss next time i saw him!

I like it - Foy George! Foy has it for me though I do actually like George Michael's voice, in saying that I don't own any of George Michael's recordings just to make that clear!

He also had to reiterate that he doesn't own any George Michael as not to taint his musical reputation:D

Steve, egg and your face are in alignment :p

I will admit to owning a George Michael greatest hits cd, and sometimes it even gets played.

When he sang at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert ,there was no one to touch him vocally. (except of course for Robert Plant whose voice is a national treasure)
