Peter, check out John Mullin from Omagh, originally with The Basement and now very much doing his own thing. Would you consider him as a support act on tour?

Well, if we're going down this route, may I suggest 'The Shee'? Scottish all female band of 'trained' musicians: harp, flute, accordian, violin, mandolin. Clog dancing if you're lucky. Not an electric guitar in sight.

I would like to suggest something very different. Fizzy and I saw "Hope and Social" for the first time in York as a support act - what a breath of fresh air. For a support act to silence a disinterested, chatting audience at a standing gig is no mean feat but that's exactly what they did. Like Duke, they love a bit of audience participation and during one song, they handed out cheap Kazoos and had the whole audience buzzing along - hilarious

There are four guys in the full band which is based in Leeds and they did very well as newcomers to Glastonbury this year. I think that they would go down very well on a Duke Special bill :)

I thought that I should add that I've had a chance to listen to The Shee and John Mullin and agree that they are also talented musicians that I would like to see live! :)

Hey Teddy10,
I'm glad that you had the same lively experience of H&S. There were six of us at the gig and we all bought their new "Architect of this Church" CD (also available in vinyl!).
The passion and musical ability of the band is beyond question, but when you look at their website http://www.hopeandsocial.com/, and read the blogs you realise what a long, hard road it is to succeed in the music business. We'll certainly see them again if they can get the gigs.

I've just been checking these guys out and enjoying every minute of it. I think they'd be great at a Duke gig, and they definately deserve it. They've worked hard and you can see the results in their brilliant and varied tracks. I think we'll be hearing a lot more from them. Well, I will anyway.

A rather oddball support act for an open air festival for Duke - Judging by the DukeBox choice I would guess that Duke likes wacky musical instruments. We saw Ulik the Mechano-Komic in Cologne at the weekend. It's a shame I didn't record him rolling around inside and on top of his Big Drum. I just got this short clip of his Tuba-bike routine - felt quite surreal at the time - He has a truck load of his inventions. Ulrik lives in Alsace but speaks fluent English, German Italian etc and seems to live on the road

Don't know if you've been on their site recently, but there's a tour planned. I'm aiming for Cavendish Arms, Stockwell on 7 October:D

I did note that the Fab Four have posted a series of gigs 7th to 25th October (http://www.hopeandsocial.com/) We will also be able to make the Cavendish Arms gig - we must meet up!
The other shows are great if you live up North but difficult for us to get to on a weekday and we are "Mother Couraging" every weekend that we can. (*more pondering required*)

The interactive map link I made for the gigs if anyone would like to see the band is

(Don't rely on me for 100% accuracy -double check with H&S website! )
I do hope we see them on Dukster's bill one day - what a fun gig that would be! :)

If you know John tell him to give me a shout. I'd definitely put on a show in Belfast in the new year. Am completely booked up until December already.
