I'm surprised that noone has asked the question. I'm wondering why Duke Special and his record label have parted company?
Duke? Anyone else know the answer to this?

I know almost nothing about the workings of the current music industry other than massive technological change is afoot and independent labels are becoming increasingly popular with musicians who are rightly fed up with careless and indifferent management by large media organisations that only have time for the likes of the Elton Johns and Madonnas.

There is an interesting article about this trend for independence by young Rich Huxley from the band Hope and Social (Alamo Music) here

It does mean that fans can help their favourite performers succeed more than ever :)

Interesting article. I'm always curious about the business side of things - and how they ever make a living out of music!

Follow up article by Rich as to why it's so hard for bands to make the money they deserve from record sales - scary ...

These articles are really interesting, it's frightening how everything is only about profit these days. Not the best days for creative people.

There is also a documentary about the band Hanson called 'Strong Enough To Break', where you get some insights in the music industry. The had a 3-year struggle with their record company about releasing a record before the finally went independent.

Wow...completely shocked that someone has heard of Strong Enough To Break! But yeah, Strong Enough To Break used to be available in podcasts on itunes, not sure if it still is.

I get the feeling it's all about creativity with him and he's not too fussed about the money.
