Last night?s gig was v. exciting. Thomas Truax was support and I think he?s amazing and complements Duke?s set well. (Didn?t see the first band, NeatPeople, as we could hear their set from outside the pub and it was a touch too loud and screechy!)

Duke Special played with a full band ? Chip Bailey, Rea Curran, Ben Hales and ?the Professor? ? sorry, not sure of his name - so the tiny stage was pretty crowded! They created a magnificent sound though and the venue was packed. There was a palpable air of excitement before they arrived on stage, similar to the Bush Hall gig, and every song was greeted with rapturous applause and some singing along. It seems that people are finally catching on and it may have helped that the Metro (free London paper) billed this as ?Gig of the Week? with a picture and the other dates listed.

Set list:

Wake up Scarlett
Everybody needs a little something
Brixton leaves
I let you down
No cover up
Portrait
Last night I nearly died
Ballad of a broken man
Freewheel
This could be my last day
** **
Low (just Duke and David Ford on backing vocals)
Salvation Tambourine

? right, I'm off to the Barfly now! :)

It was indeed a special night. Well worth not getting back home until 01.45. Roll on tomorrow at the Phoenix Theatre

Sounds like a really cool gig! I would love love love to see/hear Duke and David Ford together, I've only seen Mr Ford once in the Sugar Club here in Dublin and he was fantastic.
Thanks for the review, enjoy the next gig ya lucky duck :)

I read somewhere that it was THIS gig where the boss of music at the BBC saw Duke Special and then booked him to play on Later...with Jools holland- can anyone confirm this? What a gig to be at.....the gig that opened the door to the wider public's ears....:) Ta:)

Yes, I'd heard from a v. reliable source that there were people from the BBC and Jools Holland there - it was a bit of a "showcase" gig and obviously did the trick!! :D
