Another amazing gig last night! Sadly no Chip Bailey (was he given the night off?) but Duke was joined by Rea Curran and "Professor" Ger Eaton. The songs sounded fantastic in that upstairs room and it feels that it's all gathering momentum now ...

Set list:
Closer to the start
Wake up Scarlett
Portrait
Brixton Leaves
I let you down
Last night I nearly died
Worst at the best of times - with Iain Archer sharing vocals
Ballad of a broken man
Salvation Tambourine
Freewheel
No cover up
***
Everybody wants a little something
Shiver me timbers - Tom Waits cover (Duke sang while Rea played piano)
This could be my last day

It was a privilege to be at the gig - not sure how much longer he'll be able to play those "initimate" venues.
Someone else will have to report on tonight - I hope it's a good one.
Roll on tomorrow and Brixton! :)

was a lovely evening and it was great to see Gary Dunne in the audience and Iain Archer getting up for the duet ....

Hope that when the headline venues get bigger that the audiences listen as intently as we did last night !! 8)

here's a couple of photo's from last night :)

Thanks for that, Newbie - great photos!

The Phoenix bar was the first Duke Special London gig that I've missed in 18 months!

... but I'll be at Brixton tonight! :D

I was there ...it was amazing... I was sitting on a stool close to them, and felt like I was on the stage, it was beautiful. I saw Duke the night before at Water Rats, and as Jaz predicted, I fell in love.

Final London gig last night ? till Divine Comedy in November as far as I know :( .

I wasn?t overly keen on the venue ? Brixton Windmill ? strange layout and people along the bar couldn?t see much, which is presumably why they were talking through most of it!! It was Duke and Chip with accordion accompaniment (Jools Maxwell?) on Brixton Leaves and Slip of a girl which sounded great. Don?t breathe was included this time and Maps, and they finished with No cover up (with a bit of John Lennon Love segway as someone requested it) ? such a beautiful song! :)

I think the Enterprise gig was the best - a really attentive audience made a difference, and I loved the duet with Iain Archer, and the Tom Waits cover.

Bit of an intensive week for Duke Special but hopefully all the hard work will pay off...

OK, gotta make an effort not to wish the time away until November!
