Neil Hannon will not disappoint. As Sneaky says, having the Duke supporting is but a bonus.
Sneaky, you wouldn't by any chance be referring to their 'last gig' (as the original line up) in the Mandela Hall in Nov 2001? :)
Or did you catch him on the 'Absent Friends' tour?
Got 2 tickets last week in Durham.
Don't know who I'm going with yet but I'll be there.
Wouldn't miss it for anything.
Mattchoo - see you there but I'll only recognise you if you wear that cream beanie hat again! Please say hello though.
Where's Ian?

I'll say hello, sadly the cream beanie wont be making an appearance as it got stolen in a nightclub off a drunken girl. I was not best pleased! Haha. Ian will be there in attendance, i think im meeting him there at some point.

Divine Comedy are supposed to be excellent live! I cant wait to go... just a matter of trying to get time off work and figuring out which venue... Cork is closer but Dublin will be more fun :) [ideal world, BOTH :)]
Ah shame!
RIP the cream beanie!
This gig's in the Bassment so there should be hundreds there.
HELLO!!!
Yes I shall be there!!! I can't wait. It'll be the most exciting thing in the world to have happened, ever, in October 2006, in Newcastle University. I guarantee it.
If anyone else needs a ticket, get in touch, I have a spare. Face value and all that.
Lots of love
Ian
That's great Ian :D
Don't forget to say 'Hello' this time.
Jan xx
ah my ticket has now been snapped up. i knew someone would go. matt's not going now cos he's putting university studies before the duke! i think that's terrible.
i'll say hello and more when i see you! haha. if you see me, don't be afraid of whacking me and alerting me that you've spotted me, as chances are i'll forget, because I'm an idiot.
x
Ian,
I would say that Matt's excuse is pure pants!
Isn't it half-term or something.
Not in the habit of hitting people but if that's what it takes........... :D
Now where's that lump hammer......?
we dont really get half-term at uni! but matt should realise that his future lies with watching the duke and not making movies and the likes. he's too ambitious that lad! he should be content with watching some top notch live entertainment! :D x
Ah sorry Ian :? It's about a hundred years since I was on the receiving end of higher education and I'm sure we had half-term breaks!
Very much looking forward to 24th and getting my new CDs.

Hi I'm new, another crossposter from the TDC forum. Looking forward to seeing the Duke in Toon, as well as Neil and the band obviously :)
Found some footage of your man and our man on you tube:

Cheers
Welcome to the Duke forum Geordie!
Thanks for the video clip posting - that's a nice little montage and I know what to expect at the Roundhouse gig now! :)
Nice to have you with us Geordie.
Confession........I've been on TDC forum and you're a lovely friendly lot over there too....just like Duke fans!
Say hello if you see me at the gig on Tuesday.
Won't be wearing a pink carnation but I'm middle-aged, fat and white of hair (on the outside). I'll be with my bairn Gilly who is none of the above!
Can't wait! It's going to be a fantastic gig :D
TRULY AMAZING YET AGAIN! DUKE & CHIP RULE.

I've got to sort my camera out! It's gone all funny. Some cool shots still though. Jan I didn't see you! You'll have to whack me if you see me next time!
Also, I spotted on the merch table that they had Duke's tour dates that are yet to be announced. He is playing The Cluny on February 7th! CAN NOT WAIT. That is a mint venue (I've booked it for my birthday party on Jan 5th - also found out tonight that Duke's birthday is Jan 4th! Us Capricorns rule!!!)
Great gig tonight again. I'm off to bed happy! :)

Awwhh that makes me realise how much I miss Duke's gigs! Great pics though, thats for them Ian!!
Yeah Im dying to see Duke again already! Love the dhots Ian but I have to say my fav shot EVER is the one on your myspace where Duke is presenting you with a potted plant! Love it! :D
Back to planet earth with a sickening thud :(
Last night was the best Duke Special gig we've been to yet (out of three) :D
Duke and Chip were in amazing form and, I think, won many new fans from what was obviously a heavily partisan crowd.....ie they were there for the Divine Comedy!
When Duke and Chip started there was only a small select band around the stage whilst the rest talked loudly elsewhere but after about 3 songs I looked around and most of them had gathered to listen.
Ian, I think I saw you mate, now that I study your pic. All I knew was that you're tallish and darkish which could have fitted several blokes in the room......great chat-up line tho'...'Excuse me but are you Ian the nutter from Whitley Bay?'......hehe. We stood on the far right of the stage where the short people have to stand if they're going to see anything at all.
It was nice to meet Chris tho'.....join in here Chris......don't be shy :)
NEARLY came home with the new CD album........long story........but now in proud possession of one of the promo discs as a consolation prize!.......No hard feelings at all...I said it and I meant it :)
Jan xx
Sorry ian....they ARE great pics!

hello everyone
last night was wonderful, i came over to see duke and chip and it was just great and the divine comedy were a bonus although i was feeling like a bit of a plum dancing about like an eejit hands in the air and everything, singing badly and everyone else were just head nodding looking cool and interested.
people who talk loadly when support acts are on should get a slap!
i think newcastle is my closest GOOD live music venue and i will be happily giving up pints to come over again!
cool people!
Cheers
Mel
So was it you that was caged off from the Duke and Chip for being ferocious in that last shot, Ian, or the other way around? ;)
Sadly Bloke and I are both ill and had to miss last night's Newcastle gig, but my boss put a smile on my face this morning when he began to excitedly tell me about a "great support band" he'd seen last night - it was only when he mentioned the Divine Comedy that I suddenly twigged that I knew what he was going to say :) He was most impressed, particularly with the cheese grater and whisk :D

Ian
I am thinking that you were standing behind me because on the first pic i was standing behind the tall girl and beside (ish) the girl with the red woolie hat!
So Hello!
Hi Mel,
That's dedication, to brave the travel last night....I know Penrith as I'm there once a month for 'work'...nice place and people :)
Don't worry about looking a plum, when TDC were on there was some serious arm-waving going on!
It was a great night.
What say at the next gig in Feb that we all have some kind of identification and meet properly instead of missing each other?
Can someone tell me how to get to the venue of the next one? I used to know the Toon really well about 40 years ago but they've rebuilt it since :? I moved around a lot in the intervening years.
The Cluny's hidden up a back street, Jan, right beside Byker Bridge. There's a pub, the Tanners Arms, on the corner of the street you need to go up to find it.

See you there :)
What other dates are in this tour then, Ian?

Your such a Duke whore Ian whilst i was busy learning boring stuff for our dissertation!
Your such a Duke whore Ian whilst i was busy learning boring stuff for our dissertation!
loser.
i'm having my birthday party at the cluny!!! with three mint bands playing! you see.... i book it and the duke follows!! it's not always the other way round ay?!!!!!
i think we should all meet up at the cluny for a few beers like. it's a decent size venue (300 capacity) but seems really small when everyone's there... and i get the feeling it'll be full for the dukester!
mel, yes, reading your posts i think i was behind you. as you were the only one brave enough to dance along wildly to duke! it still didn't beat my drunken efforts at dancing in carlisle a good few months ago! that was a very, very fun night - and he even played Love is a series of scars for me! how nice!
i'm just had a cup of tea and it was lovely.
x
and he even played Love is a series of scars for me! how nice!
Really? Do tell us more, Ian - I don't believe I've ever heard you mention that before...
Thanks for the directions Dawn - er.......still none the wiser really. We drive to Consett and catch the bus to Eldon Square cos I'm hopeless at driving in the Toon, get lost and finish up driving miles to get back to where I started. :?
I noticed there was a gig at Stockton Georgian Theatre.

When me and Ian went to Carlisle to see him, Ian kept on asking Peter to do the song. And he did! Its on youtube somewhere. Click:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ic0Gp-B_lPE
And with groovy black and white effects. Though Ians camera ran out of memorey towards the end!
Just the slightest possibility that Dawn was employing irony?

Thanks Jan, at least someone's on the ball ;)
I remember that night in Carlisle well myself as we were there as well and Peter said afterwards that he'd slipped a few different songs into the set, not just LIASOS, because there were a few of us who'd been to several gigs on that tour so he thought he'd give us a change :)

bless matt. stop picking on him. he doesn't know what a  smiley means!!!
it was cos we were drinking with the dukester beforehand, we managed to convince him!! it was a great night that one like!
x
and wow my video has had 823 views!!! I've watched it 800 times so that means he has at least 23 other fans!!!
it was cos we were drinking with the dukester beforehand
Ian, I think you mean that you ran into him accidentally in a pub and he was too rude to tell you to go away
And obviously my charms are far greater than yours because he played my personal favourite, Closer to the Start, without me even having to ask him ;)

Almost missed this reply in amongst all the rest, but very glad I didn't - Stockton Georgian is virtually on my doorstep, so you've just cheered up an ill Dawn - thank you Jan :D
Oh blimey, I'm afraid I've no idea where the Cluny is in relation to Eldon Square - I only know those two parts of Newcastle as completely separate entities! The nearest landmark I can think of to the Cluny is a Warner Bros cinema - don't know if that's any help?
Really sorry to hear you're poorly Dawn. Get well soon please.
Think i might go for the Stockton date rather than Toon. Is the parking a problem there?
Don't know how I've become so useless at city driving cos I learnt to drive and took my test in Leicester which has always been known as a terrible place to drive through......I had to do it every day.
D'you think we have those guys on the run? 8) They sound a bit twitchy to me
Must watch that video - might even see us on it.
There's not one specific carpark for Stockton Georgian, Jan, but there are a couple of little ones nearby which I usually park in (the main multi-storey which people use for shopping closes at 7 or 8 so is no good for gigs). If you do decide to go to that gig, I'm sure I can help you find a parking spot so just let me know nearer the time :) I know what you mean about city driving - I'm ace in the parts of Newcastle I know, but I panic if there's ever a diversion for road closures that throws me off track!
Oh and thanks, I finally feel a bit better today :)

Absolutely stunning! I was there primarily for TDC but the Duke and Chip were brilliant! I'm a fan and can't wait for the Cluny gig! Songs From The Deep Forest has not been off my CD player since the gig.
Nice shot of the back of my head in that first Duke photo :)
The Cluny is under Byker Bridge, the nearest Metro station is probably Manors. Warners cinema was knocked down last year and is now a building site!
The Tanners, as mentioned is a good landmark to help you find it, the hill behind the Tanners is called Stepney Bank and the Cluny is at the foot of that hill.

Shows how long it is since I've been to either the Cluny or the speedway (the two places which take me past that way)! :D
