Apparently we are braving this torrential rain and heading to Donagel tomorrow for a while! I really hope it doesn't rain too much when we're there. Otherwise we won't be able to see any of the gorgeous scenery.:(

Kim, if you're around my neck of the woods make sure ya get in contact!!;)
In Mayo, if you can see Croagh Patrick then it's gonna rain, if you can't then it's already raining. If we had similar landmarks in Weardale the story would be similar.......
Have a great Sunday whatever folks.

I learned the Thriller dance and it's fun! :D I want a group of people to do it at my 21st. That isn't till 2 years from October but still! I mentioned it to my sister(who's 25) and she got a bit over excited and started shouting names of people she thought would do it and was all hyper! Still we're gonna do it and it'll be fun!
If it's near Hallowe'en and you do all the makeup too it sounds a lot of fun!!

Just back from another great Greenbelt! Despite the absence of Duke, lots of good music (Beth Rowley), talks (very impressed by Douglas Alexander MP) and poetry (Ian macmillan was hilarious). The theme of Rising Sun meant of course that it rained quite a bit, but I still managed to get a sunburnt nose
Anyone else there this year?

Tickets for Glenties arrived on Friday just before heading to the NCH. A great start to a great weekend. Peter mentioned himself and Rae will be at Glenties. Trying to work out logistics to getting there from Co. Down. Alice and myself didn't get to meet any of the forum members on the night but we will hopefully have the pleasure on 11th Sept.

I have just had the most wonderful night!
Firstly I took my 4 yr old niece to the Grand Opera House in Belfast to see Joseph and his amazing technicolour dreamcoat. I know its a bit of a cheesy musical but I love it (it was the first thing my parents ever took me to see when I was 3... I loved it then and I still love it). The child was mesmorised. Totally caught up in the music and the dancing and we sang the whole way home in the car. It also helped that a couple of the actors where MIGHTY FINE! (and how I wish they had been in the car on the way home ;))
We then put on the Mamma Mia soundtrack and danced around the house. I don't know how many times we listened to it but I got quite a work out and learnt quite a few new moves into the bargin.
Now, slightly sore, tired and extremely happy I am off to bed!

I agree about "Joseph", Maggie - it's cheesy but good, and it was my first ever musical as well, when I was about 3 or 4, in Dublin :)
I bought a portable gramophone in an auction yesterday for 20 quid (REALLY heavy for being portable though ), dont know what to do with it at the minute but its lovely :)

South west is a bit soggy but no floods, rivers are high. We've all seen the 'Man drowns trying to rescue dog' type of item in the media during the wet weather spells, I had a go at it the other day, youngest dog was stuck in branches of a fallen tree and becoming frantic so i waded in, the water became gradually deeper, i was up to my neck when i reached the dog, set her free and then i was washed away and went under, it was only 10 yards or so before i came up and swam a few strokes to shallower water, its bloody hard work swimming fully clothed with wellies and a backpack on! The soaking wasnt good for my mobile phone and the cheque for £500 i had in my wallet! The dogs thought it was great fun that i joined them for a swim!!
Lesson - Even the most familiar or innocent stream/river can be hazardous when even slightly above normal levels - be extra cautious!!

Well, I havent stopped smiling for the past couple of weeks.
I've been a volunteer down with the Dublin Fringe Festival and I have been having the time of my life. Its hard work - I am bruised, sore, very tired but I feel totally wonderful.
The acts this year have been amazing - La Clique who are the most stunning modern circus (Bathtub man is a particular fav), Cathy Davey, Camille O'Sullivan, Karen Egan, Humanzi, Brass Off, Sugar Hill Gang, Duke (of course)...
Highlights so far have been one drunk handcuffing himself to Karen mid song, getting my own personal bodyguard, walking the sugar hill gang through torrential rain to the venue in what can only be described as binbags, and of course, refusing admittance to Mundy who was performing with Camille... in my defence he was the 3rd guy that night who had asked to get in as he was "a performer" and the only one who genuinely was
And of course, the end of the night when the crew grab a beer and just hang out - to be honest I think this IS the best part!
Its been hard to juggle with the day job but that is suddenly not so much of an issue. We had a little situation here and I am "on leave" till at least tuesday. And I feel surprisingly wonderful about the whole thing - and it means I can fit in even more shifts for the fringe.
What i am not looking forward to is the whole thing ending on Sunday night... I'm having so much fun I never want it to end.

Was it like the previous tour or was it more of a gig like a festival?

Em well this was the first time i sw them. The first half was just kind of random talking and bringing out all the different characters in turn and then the second half had a storyline and it was really funny. And then they did pretty much all the songs at the end of the show and a few throughout. We waited around outside for them but a big van pulled right up to the door and just got straight in even though there was a huge crowd waiting outside.:( Ah well they waved and smiled and said hi but i thought they'd come out and sign stuff and talk....
By Ms. Palmer are you referring to Amanda Palmer? I haven't got her solo album yet and i was meant to be going to the Dublin gig on Friday and now i have to work till 9 so i most likely won't be going.:(

Thanks to everyone who sent their wishes when we lost Perry to cancer last month.
We've now found ourselves a lovely 'small' greyhound (via the Dogs Trust) - she was picked up as a stray over there in Ireland (seems kinda right, dontcha think?) - they called her Leah, but we've changed it to Leya (you'll recall me extolling this now defunct Belfast band up until their split last January - one of the Leya guys, Michael Keeny has helped with the arrangements on the new DS album).
She's a beautiful dog, and now she's lost her kennel cough she's having a ball chasing squirrels and cats...and the odd hedgehog (big mistake trying to pick that one up).
She'll never be 'the new Perry' but she's the original Leya alright

I had my friends 6 year old twins, Stephen and Sarah in the car this evening.
To keep them occupied I put on the radio and we were singing along with the songs.
Then Sweet Sweet Kisses came on...
From the back Stephen shouted out "turn that off"
When I questioned why he owned up "he's singing about kissing girls. YUK!"
Sorry but it really did make me laugh. And I can't help wondering how long this aversion to kissing girls will last.

You'd think that! I've been playing For Crying Out Loud for 13 years now. Do you *know* how hard it is to suddenly try to wipe out everything you know about that song (the simple arrangement), to replace it with the skills of Roy Bittan?!
It's not easy but I'll get there! I awarded myself with 3 hours with just my piano and I tonight.
I should do it more often...

Autumn. Rocks. This autumn particularly so. My Sky, which I'm paying an extortionate amount each month for has gone again - but do you know what? I don't care. Because it's autumn.
Leaves are (still) falling, crows flying home cawing against the darkening sky, the feeling that you should have been home by now, people walking somewhere with a purpose, but you stay in that coffee shop to have one more cup, headlights on even though you don't really need them, the nip of night chill soothed by the car heater,
In one word. Cosy. *covers elses' ears* Fucking Awesome.

Mr Ethereal sprung a surprise on me this week - two nights in our very favourite hotel. And who was at breakfast yesterday morning? Van Morrison - *and* the members of Oasis. I didn't know who to watch - it was like breakfast tennis. Noel Gallagher was wearing a black shirt covered in little white stars, which I thought was quite funny: "Look at me: I'm a star!" Van Morrison (after whom we named a fish in our aquarium... we didn't tell him...) has acquired alarmingly red hair, in the style of Krusty the Clown. Perhaps for Halloween?

Congratulations on your anniversary Steetsie - 20 years - thats fantastic, and on your son's birthday!
I bought anVirgin/Air New Zealand 5 stop rtw ticket, going for 3 months and a week, flying to LA first but going to San Diego,Palm Springs and Las Vegas, then flying to the Cook Islands for a week, then on to New Zealand, Australia and Hong Kong/Macau. Found a very cheap budget airline called Tiger Airways (think its Singapore Airline's baby), and found out that I can fly from Shenzhen near Hong Kong to Singapore for £29, so I'm going to try and fit that in for a few days if I can. Its taking up alot of my time in planning at the moment!

But dubya's party represented the zealot's that contain the fanatical 'racist element' of the deep south - I can't help but think there'll be a Kennedy thing going on...
still, on a positive role model front Obama, Hamilton and Woods have got be good to teach the world that it's what's inside that matters

Ok well Ryan and the Cardinals were absolutely class! One of the best gigs i've been to. Up with Bruce Springsteen and Arcade Fire.:D They didn't have support and played for 2 hours 15 mins. And the sound was brilliant and Ryan's voice is just so beautiful live. Plus i was in the second row from the front and the people infront of me were small so i got great pictures and a few videos and had a great view all night!:) Highlights were: Cobwebs-the opener, Goodnight Rose which they dragged out with a brilliant instumental part at the end, Cold Rosed which is just a class song, Wonderwall, When the Stars Go Bue, Desire, Let It Ride, Off Broadway and Stop.
I'm on such a high!:D
Hope we get to see the pics Kim.....on a Ryan Adams thread of course. Sounds like a fantastic gig.
My two-pennorth on the subject of President Elect Obama, he seems like the Real Deal to me and what the Western World was crying out for. I remember when Kennedy was shot, it was a mystery how it was done then and still theories abound as to the finer details of the event. Rest assured that levels of security have moved on from the 1960s and he will be well protected like no one else in the Universe. God bless the man and the task before him....and thank the same God that Bush will be no longer at the White House.
I expect to be under surveilance within the hour.......supposing I'm not already.

You're correct DS....no one has actually had the patience to listen to the song AND write the lyrics since Ian Dury (God bless him)...one of my favourite feel-good songs but I couldn't have quoted much apart from Wee Willie Harris and I'm probably in a small select group who remember said gentleman (he rocked....badly in the 60s)

Lovely dilemna to be in rebelsoul! You won't be able to resist opening the boxset first.
My rtbc - got a very beautiful new rooster yesterday from a friend's grandmother to keep the girls company. He is pure white and quite small - bantam really and sounds a bit falsetto at the moment! Hope he'll improve with age and not annoy the neighbours too much. And that the foxes don't get him like OGs! He is very handsome though.

After a very odd time I am just getting back into my hobbies properly and am now listening to Duke's "new" stuff for the first time (heard it at gigs but not got into it other than that).
It's fabulous - I think I'm going to be stuck on his myspace page for a while!

:) Barry Gibb it is then! Hadn't got round to a name for him (and the poor girls haven't been named at all, I've run out of female names). Barry Gibb is perfect - sort of suits him. Really shouldn't anthropomorphise animals but as we've never been able to do a Hugh F-W on them ....

I enjoyed a great night of Comedy last night at The Union Chapel (great venue for the Duke in my opinion).
The line up included Andrew Maxwell, Jon Richardson and Richard Herring :)
My son went to this, and had a brilliant night. He got me a clip of Jon Richardson that ~ literally ~ had me in tears of laughter :)
Duke has played at Union Chapel and ~ yes ~ it's a fantastic venue for him as the accoustics are superb.....

Despite being rotten with the 'flu, I've been doing listings for my Saint George's Singers concert (please check us out on 'Other Bands'). I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I have any sort of a voice at all.
On the goto belfast website, they've listed our concert between gigs by Bonnie Tyler and Coldplay.
From 'Viva Vivaldi' to 'Viva la vida' - hilarious!
P.S. My church choir St. Mark's, Dundela will be live on RTE radio 1 this Sunday 14th Dec. from 10.45 to 11.30am doing Choral Matins - we're on after mass from Newbridge. If you hear coughing, that'll be me!

:) Not long home from Christmas work Do. It was a bit of a 'do'. Everyone was in good form, turned out in their glad rags and all looking really well, good food and a few drinks but I don't know if we have entered the Christmas spirit just yet.
When I came home and listened to Duke on vinyl it did the trick. Nothing like it! One more Moscow Mule as a nightcap while enjoying the good sound.

Oh the frozen food place! Unfortunately its quite close so i only got to night two! :) worth it though.
We discovered how much Aldi has improved in these difficult times, it used to be all mass-processed stuff but the greengrocery is very good now. The wine prices are very reasonable too but I'll put off buying any till next week cos I'd only drink it!!
On returning, found the two little pigmy goats from the field at the far end of our road had made themselves at home in our garden and were pruning the ivy next to our gate which I'd meant to do for ages. They're so pretty and friendly and are never in their own field but usually to be found alongside the flock of ewes in the big field next to us. It made us smile to have two little guests:-)

Oh Jan, that's adorable.
Well, I'm off to see my children's school concert tomorrow. It's on the same day as my big Vivaldi concert, but I think that I'm more excited about hearing theirs!
Oh and if you're feeling Christmas-sy log on to rte radio 1 archive on the web and click on choral matins from St. Mark's, Dundela Sun, 14th Dec. for a bit of nice choral music ( I'm one of the sopranos!)

Simone, I would have loved to have seen Tim Minchin again, we'll just have to petition him to come back to 'Norn Iron'.
I'm not sure if Tim would approve, but my kids are off to their Nativity play rehearsal in chuch ( 1st time ever so they're quite excited) , and I'm supposed to be doing nine lessons & carols:whistle: - but I have no voice :(, and the chances of something beyond a squeak appearing by tonight are low - so wish me luck ( I'm afraid my mockingbird seems to have flown the coop)

I had a really bad last week of term (very tragic happenings, long story) but am feeling better today due to an evening out with the lovely Mr Ethereal last night - we went to see the film "A Bunch of Amateurs". The perfect film for us: as he said, "two English teachers on a big night out", it's a very cleverly written metafictional take on Shakespeare's play "King Lear". Highly recommended if you like any aspect of the theatre - really life-affirming.

:) ending up with the flu for the past few days
Poor runnerbean, I know exactly how you feel!
All four of us came down with the 'flu on Christmas day and so did a fair number of our friends - so no Christmas lunch happened at our house at all!
Last night we went over to my mother-in-laws for our first proper christmas meal.
But great fun was had at my children's nativity play at church. Joshua refused point blank to be an angel and the only other costume we had at home was a T-Rex. So a little Christmas dinosaur trotted up the aisle following his sister in pink fairy wings. He hadn't made the rehearsal because of illness and as a result wasn't quite sure what to do.
Picture the scene of a dinosaur trotting up to Mary, Joseph and co., putting his hands on his hips and announcing at full volume 'Now just where am I supposed to sit!' It was hilarious.

Sorry OG! didn't mean to upset you in your henlessness - just one of the signs of Spring on the way - like daffodil shoots appearing in the garden etc. And if you need further evidence of the reappearance of Spring, just have a look at the Official Girlie Thread which is showing definite signs of new life ;). Sadly, at my age, I'll stick to hens and daffodils!

My dog is finally back to her old self again:D Two days before christmas she got seriously ill and had to be taken to the vets. Their initial thoughts were viral infections but she wasn't responding to any medication couldn't move and even turned yellow from jaundice. They figured out just in time that it was gall stones and after a tricky op she managed to survive.
I have exams this week but thanks to people's advice from last year I'm calm and collected just hope I stay this way for next year:suspect: Thanks Guys!

Jiminy! GG actually posting on the HAPPY thread (in spite of the fact I discovered today that a major friend of mine from way back, though I'd not seen them for years and they were elderly, had died).
I think you'll like this story. It's nice.
On 20th December I was working in Guildford High Street (no, my rent boy days are behind me - I was manning a stall for Guildford Museum) and I saw a teddy bear just lying on the pavement. I picked him up and sat him on railings nearby in the hope the owner would come back. They didn't. So, two hours later when we packed up, I took him home.
I fired off an e-mail to the local paper from the bear asking to be reunited with his owner, but they didn't publish it. So I was sat with a teddy bear for a couple of weeks.
I'm currently halfway through work for my next book and this afternoon I was walking out of town to take some photographs, down a main road I've not actually walked down for about a year. Just as I was about to cross the road, I saw a big colour laminated WANTED poster on a lamp post - with a massive photo of the bear!
I phoned the dad and he picked it up from me this evening. He said someone had phoned him to say they'd seen it on the railings the day it was lost (astute, eh?) but sadly some nutter kept ringing over Christmas saying they had the bear and were holding it to ransom.
There was a reward but I refused to take it. I have the feelgood factor tonight!
