Friend of mine had that problem. She got quotes for the same upgrade from rival phone companies, then rang hers and told them that they could either match or better the lower quotes she got or she would switch.........they came up with a much lower quote immediately. Would that work in the US? They want your custom after all's said and done:)
Good luck

My stepmother - Dad's wife for 38 years - died suddenly at the age of 62, two weeks ago while on holiday in Madeira. She suffered a massive heart attack in her sleep and never woke up. Such a shock for us all.
Her funeral was held in Edinburgh at the weekend and it was wonderful to see so many people come and pay their respects. She was a very popular lady and will be massively missed.
RIP Elspeth Clarke

Something horrible has happened that may complicate my going to the Duke's fringe show. Note: I said complicate. There's not a snowballs chance in Hades I'm missing that gig. The wrath of a pissed off teen fangirl hell hath none.

Having to get our 25 year old, aboslute sweetheart, grey mare put to sleep this morning because of colic. We were all in floods of tears. We knew she was old and that she could go at any time but it was awful to watch her lying on the ground, in so much pain and not able to get up because of the Colic. The vet said she never would've recovered and i think we definitely did the right thing but it was not at all easy.:(

I'm really sorry for your loss. It's never easy to lose a companion animal. But it's the truest expression of your love for them that you'd rather let them go than let them suffer. I'll keep good thoughts for you.
That's horrible for you all GA.

New sexist RNTBC! Just started working for various agents other than direct clients. The first cheque received in payment for our garden services was addressed to Mr ****** and today I have one made out to IAN ****** when my invoice clearly said JAN!
I'm just going to have to kick bottom over this!
Can these people not read or they just read what they want to?
Why should horticulture be a male-dominated profession and why, after 12 years as a professional, should I be coming up against this problem? As I'm past the age when I should have hung up my hoe I can only assume that those responsible are younger than me and that just makes the situation seem worse,
:(:(

It is a very sad day today for my family.
Our 13+ year old border collie, Milo, who hasn't been well for a while, was put to sleep :(
We buried him in the back garden, his favourite place, up amongst the trees.
We will all miss him.

Thank you to everyone. It was awful but the right thing to do. A sense of relief in a way. Anyone who has had a pet understands. He was a very clever and handsome dog. He used to pinch foil wrapped crisps from the cupboard and pop them open with his paw.
He loved playing with balloons, one would last him weeks. He lifted by the knot and took them to bed with him and really looked after them. I think he would have made a good father if he had been allowed!! Poor boy.

These past 36 hours have been a nightmare.
Work has been really stressful for the past few months - long hours, lots of stress and pressure, no holidays, no weekends...
Then last night, 12 hours into a shift and looking ahead to another 12 hours I get a phonecall from a friend.
"Himself" took ill in work and was rushed into A&E.
The rest is a bit of a blur as I tried to get hold of my boss to let him know I had to leave and then to get across the city to the hospital.
There he was, curled up on a stretcher in the corridor, with all these wires and monitors and needles coming out of him, looking as white as a ghost.
Apparently he had started to have a tightness in the chest in work. He didn't think too much of it until pins and needles appeared in his left hand and down his left arm. He went to his GP who sent him immediately to the hospital.
I've been there ever since...
They have a strict policy on visiting hours but thankfully last night we had a kindly nurse, who got me an armchair and a blanket and I got to stay with him through the night until the asshole consultant kicked me out this morning. Apparently girlfriend don't count as "family" (even if his family aren't around and there is no one else) and the consultant put it (and I couldn't quite believe this) "unless you have a band of gold on your finger then you don't get in"
I did manage to convince the nurse to let me in again at visiting time.
The truth is, we really don't know what is wrong with him at the moment. His blood pressure and pulse are extremely high but there are no indications of heart attack.
He has had so many blood tests he mustn't have much blood left - again, Nothing!
Chest x-ray - Nothing!
Mouthswabs - Nothing!
They keep asking him if he drinks, smokes, takes drugs all of that but NO!!! He's a health nut and always has been. Its hard to convince him to even take paracetamol the odd time
Its just so worrying and I feel so helpless. All I could do is sit and chat, hold his hands, try to help him relax a little
And it was just awful leaving him tonight. I really didn't want to go but didn't get much choice.
I'm just home but will head back in tomorrow morning.
And he is stuck on a trolley in A&E for night 2... No available beds
What kills me - THIS IS PRIVATE HEALTH CARE!!!!

my RNTBC - fall allergies; they're kicking my hinder at the moment. Entirely unfair that the only element of Fall we get here this time of year is the pollen. Seems it would be only fair if it could cool off. It's still 90` out during the day :(

RNTBC: TOO MUCH HOMEWORK. Since I've been back at school - about 3 weeks - I've had two essays, 5 computing sheets, 4 chemistry sheets, 2 bits of art homework, 3 maths sheets and a hell of a lot of revision. ARGH! I know school is meant to be a big part of my life right now, but I don't want it to completely take over. I've still got other stuff to do too!
That's kinda trivial compared to other things, really... Still pissin' me off though!

Univ of Georgia lost football game today. And what i assumed was allergies appears to be the beginnings of bronchitis. *sigh* I haven't had it since I quit smoking, but I remember that it is no fun. Hopefully hitting the antibiotics immediately will shorten the duration.
The upside to feeling ill is that I slept through the 2nd half of the game so didn't have to witness the beating.

The school run is killing me!
Joshua has started a new school just round the corner from my house,so walking is the order of the day. But it has a big long drive and he isn't confident enough yet to go all the way up by himself. So it's a sprint back home for me to pick up Eloise and get her to her classroom ten minutes later - I'm tired already.
Missing tickets for Divine Comedy in Belfast next week! Heard about it ages ago but did nothing about it at the time - now it is too late. May console myself by booking for Waterboys' Yeats extravaganza - sorry credit card.

That's a rare slant on the expression 'school run' Jacqui. You must be mega-fit by now but I expect Joshua has got the hang of walking up the drive by himself now he's used to the school.

Oh, I remember what that feels like, just kep going and it'll e over soon!
I've come down with the 'flu just as I'm organising a big singing event for Saturday and I'm living on Lucozade Sport, Crunchy Nut and Beechams All in One . Feeling miserable.
Lots of nasty bugs around at the minute. Hope you are OK for Saturday. Take care.
RNTBC today - being given the red card by a customer just for being me.....ie. a skilled and knowledgeable gardener who just happens to be female and wants to realise the potential of their garden. Apparently what's needed there is a man with lots of noisy machinery who can do miracles and make a lot of noise which naturally equates with working hard.....oh, and charges minimum rate. It seems I charge too much, am too slow and don't work hard enough!!! Odd but all my other clients are more than satisfied with my efforts.
The client in question is female, older than me but perfectly capable of doing her own garden......lazy b**ch living in the 1950s!!
I suggested that she got someone with basic qualifications at least and she says she doesn't care about that!!! Good riddance!
Fuming but still sane.
xx
Oh,I would love to have a 'proper' gardener. We have lots of men around here who will cut the grass, cut back bushes and do some speedy weeding.
But I don't mind doing the boring bits - and I can do that - sort of!
What I would love is someone who would come and show me how to plant properly, and give me some gardening knowledge. I've still to find that person.
Lol That would be me Robi and free advice is available to you for a mere PM!
(Everyone else gets charged - only kidding in case anyone is desperate for gardening advice and can't face a bill!)
xx
PS Would seriously recommend the RHS website for basic gardening tips and information. It's a charitable organisation in spite of its 'Royal' implications and does a tremendous amount to help novice gardeners get to grips with their problems. Better still, join the RHS and become part of it!

I kinda, sorta got suspended from school...
That's not even the bad bit, what I'm pissed off about is the fact that nobody thought to tell me at all, even though I saw my year head three times today! I had to find out from coming home to mum being annoyed at me for something I didn't know about. None of the teachers think to tell me anything in that bloody school. Not moving school though, 'cos my friends are at this one. Just wish the teachers would be better at all aspects of their jobs...

Sorry to hear that Sixmonthsin. Are you a civil servant? My husband will find out in January if he still has a job. My reason not to be cheerful... SNOW!!!
Don't get me wrong, I love it - snowball fights, building snowmen, etc... but...
My parents were due to visit me tomorrow. Its been a year since they were down here, and 6 months since I last got a chance to travel up to visit them but with all this snow they have just cancelled.
I don't blame them - the roads are treacherous but I am still disappointed. I had really been looking forward to them visiting.

Freaking snow. Ugh. I liked the snow when it first arrived, so much so I invited my cousin down for the day and we made a snow penis outside (we're immature, don't you judge us!) and got the day off school, but today I am incredibly sick of it.
We've been off school all week so far which is fine because I've gotten a tonne of overdue homework done, some art and some writing, but we started running low on food. My mum decided we needed to go up to Asda to get a load of stuff in so we wouldn't have to go in the car for a while. Unfortunately, the car was buried under snow. We found a shovel and a wee window scaper thingy and set to work. It was ages before we could see through the windscreen. After that, I started digging the car out from the snow surrounding it, which took forever. Probably about 2 hours in total. I was working pretty much non-stop for that time, either geting snow off the car or getting the snow away from around the car. My back is currently killing me.
All this time, I didn't have gloves, warm clothes or decent footwear on. It's taken a while for me to thaw out.
The trip to Asda which normally would take about two hours depending on how much stuff we need took FIVE HOURS. FIVE. FRIGGIN. HOURS.
Also, I'm meant to be going to Linlithgow to see more cousins and stay over on Friday, so if the snow doesn't leave by then I will not be happy.
On the plus side, I got a hat today. Along with gloves and a scarf. The gloves are fingerless with little flaps which make them into mittens, so they're pretty cool. They're all blue as well so that's good. Blue is my favourite colour.
Yep, quite agree with all the above........snow is very pretty when it's falling in lumps the size of half-crowns. It's nice for a day or two but when it keeps on falling for a week and accumulates to a depth my wellies can't cope with then I feel it's time to say enough already!! Snow's very pretty, thank you very much but please STOP if it's convenient to do so.......thank you very much.
Doesn't hurt to be polite......let's hope.......some of us need to make a living from the outdoors (preferably with no snow!)

Recently applied to two design teams and was rejected from both.
(Manufacturers of various types of art supplies and crafting products put together design teams who make projects which are used to illustrate the manufacturers' products as a finished product).
I know there are way more people out there better than I am at the kind of projects I do, and I've not been at it half as long as most of them, but it still smarts a bit when you're told you don't make the cut.
Life can be pants ....often!
Could be better hereabouts too. Two family farewells already this year and I'm becoming paranoid about this...was that really a tingle in my arm?

I missed that last one, Jan. I'm sorry to hear of your losses. xx
Mine today is more of a reason to be EFFING FURIOUS actually. I called the music store where I rented the keyboard for our house gig back in November last week to schedule the rental for the one we're having on Duke's current US trip. They told me at that time they just needed to make sure it wasn't already rented out for the day they needed, and that they'd call me back.
They never called back.
So, I called them today, only to be told that they no longer rent full size keyboards, but they can get me a small one (a toy, basically). This small one would not even remotely meet the specifications Duke has asked for.
Seriously??? Less than a week before the house gig? I have calls in to the other two places in the surrounding towns that do rentals. One doesn't have any rental models now but they are going to contact their vendor and see if they can get one in - but if they do it'll be FRIDAY before they know (our house gig is Monday). The other has something they say is similar but it's hugely expensive.
I will pay for the hugely expensive one if I must - I really have no choice as Duke's flights in and out of Atlanta are already scheduled, and I've already paid the fee for the gig. But I'm absolutely livid over this one.
I'll be making a Music Shop Manager Voodoo Doll directly, and the pins are going in some unfortunate spots, I assure you.

Thanks. I actually just got really great news. The friend that is going to NYC with my husband and I to see the Met show texted me, her church opened a coffee shop as a ministry extension and they have music there. They very recently broke down and bought what she says is "a super-duper keyboard" that she is positive meets the specs, and she says that it will not cost us anything to borrow it. She's got an email in to the person who manages the shop to get the specificaitons/model info for me, but she says it is easily equal to the one we used last time.
^^^^
....and that is a reason to be cheerful if ever I read one so let's abandon this misery!!

And back we go, turns out the keyboard on offer has" semi-weighted" keys, I have a suspicion that this won't pass the requirements. I have one reserved that the music shop says meets the specifications but its not to be cheap. May just lose my religion by the time this is all squared away. But if anything's worth the trouble, it'd be this.

My third flat tire in as many months. Something to do with the several dozen construction sites between me and my office. In an absolute fury, been told my 16 year old nephew was snuck up on and punched in the back of the head in the halls at school. He's epileptic and fell to the ground and had a seizure. This obviously makes me murderously angry, but to make it so much more infuriating, the boys that were with him who'd been his friends since they were little kids (though apparently not really) decided, rather than help him, to whip out their phones and take video.
The boy who threw the punch has been expelled from school, and the phones of the other boys have been confiscated. Nephew is worried the video will end up getting shared and getting him laughed at. I'm worried that the parents of the videographers are unaware or unconcerned that they are raising some miserable little bastards.
Nephew is fine, was only a small seizure, thankfully.
