There's a review of the album in the Independent on Sunday today which gives SftDF 4 stars out of 5:
"Duke Special is the alias of Peter Wilson, a ginger-dreadlocked, mascara-wearing Ulsterman with an accent that does not hesitate to rhyme "are" with "tower". So much for first impressions. Because when Wilson opens his mouth to sing, strange things start to happen. First, you might think Rufus Wainwright and then you might think vaudeville. By the time you're done wracking your brain for reference points, you realise that Wilson is actually in a world of his own. And having delivered, perhaps the finest cheesy piano-based pop album since Billy Joel's The Stranger, why should he go changing to try to please us?"
Not a bad review but not sure about the words - cheesy and Billy and Joel - brings to mind my most hated song of all time - "Uptown Girl". :(
