I'm currently having a total flashback to my youth.... they are playing Guns'N'Roses "Paradise City" on the radio and the office is rocking out.
My VP is sitting headbanging behind his desk - quite a sight!

Well, I've had my new Ryan Adams CDs for a while now, so I should report back - I love them!! Well, more accurately I love '29' - I haven't listened to 'Love is Hell' or 'Cold Roses' as much, which is the problem with getting too much new music at once (I also have 2 new David Ford CDs following recommendations from Bernie!)

I particularly like 'Night Birds' and 'The Sadness', which for some reason makes me think of the Mask of Zorro all the way through it!! I also love 'Starlite Diner' - the combination of his voice and the piano is gorgeous and just makes me melt inside!!

I'm going to get a new niece or nephew in about a weeks time, so I'm looking forward to the 4 hour drive back home - lots of time to catch up on CDs that I haven't listened to properly :)

I've just realised how bad that sounds (and I can't edit it!). I'm obviously looking forward to getting a new niece or nephew far more than I am the chance to listen to music on the way back home ;) (I blame posting in conjunction with red wine consumption....)

It's a good job my sister doesn't come on here.....

Mention it to Stephen if you can't edit posts. Actually it didn't read as heartless at all and the only way to bypass a 4 hour journey would be to have a Tardis! All the best for the arrival of the little one!
xx
PS The alcohol consumption of this forum is getting out of hand! As soon as I've finished this lovely coffee with a good slug of Irish in it I might address the problem further....possibly with more of the same.......Cheers ;)

A friend has popped in to lend me a copy of Melody Gardot, "My One and Only Thrill". Her voice is beautiful, I'd reccomend her to anyone!

Fancied listening to "Feet in the Sky" so typed "feet" into Windows Media Player and produced the song and a mini playlist of four others:
"Head Over Feet" by Alanis Morissette,
"Fall At Your Feet" by Crowded House
"Back on My Feet" by Declan McManus and Paul McCartney (Flowers in the Dirt) and
"Feet in the Clouds" by Paul McCartney (Memory Almost Full)

The last track post dates "Feet in The Sky" and it occurred to me that maybe old Macca had pinched Duke's idea of turning the "feet on the ground" idiom on its head. :innocent:

Love Fall at your feet by Crowded House. Do you think they sound like the early Beatles stuff?
Also loving Manics, Elbow and Kasabian's Fire.

I just got into Crowded House when they were supporting himself and FAYF is one of my favourites whose harmonies do remind me of the Beatles. I've got a couple of Elbow albums in the house but apart from a few of the more tuneful songs I find them a bit inaccessible.

Just discovered the Simon Bolivar Orchestra, a Venezuelan youth orchestra. The members of the orchestra are taken from the streets and given the chance to succeed as musicians with amazing results under the conductor, Gustavo Dudamel.
You can see them on Sky Arts 2 on Monday night at 8pm.
I particularly like this piece by Mexican composer, Arturo Marquez (Danzen no 2). It starts of as a gorgeous, lush piece, and ends up as a latin riot!

'Hands' by Little Boots.

I saw her on Jools Holland and thought that she was really good!

Yes, it's a long, long way from Duke Special in that it's synthy electropop - but it's all her own work and the lady can sing. Maybe I'm nostalgic for when I was a teenager in the 1980's but I really like this album, especially 'New in Town' and 'Remedy'. It's like a poppier version of Goldfrapp. Keep listening past the end and you'll find an unlisted piano -only song ' Hands'.

Oh and she's listed to be playing at Oxegen this year.

Yes me too, at Nottingham Arena. I saw Duke 4 times on that Crowdies tour - Nottingham, Birmingham, Wembley and Royal Albert Hall. He blew me away by the end of his first song - pretty sure it was Brixton Leaves. Awesome.
Yeah, Im a huge Crowdies/Split Enz fan too, but I suppose thats obvious with my user name six months in hehe :)

My sister was lucky enough to win tickets to the first CH reunion gig at the O2 Indigo and, lovely sis that she is, she took me along!

Totally agree with regards to Frank Turner. I've been listening to his new album (Poetry of the Deed) since it's release on Monday, and he is a great live performer.
I've been thinking about getting the Vampire Weekend album for some time, but people I've asked seem to either love it or hate it in equal numbers so I have not taken the plunge yet! Going to see James Hunter next weekend and have been listening to him a lot in anticipation of seeing him live. For those of a certain age who remember Sam Cooke, and like him, then he fits the bill. A bit of soul, reggae, blues, very 60's/70's. He has a very smooth voice and the band are such talented musicians. If you try Youtube, listen to 'Carina'. Van Morrision rates him highly.

Bad grammar in there somewhere!! Not corrected.

Diablo Dimes- Gloria O Muerte. Gotta love his old style self titled "ragtime- jump blues-funeral stomp-boogie woogie" with his unique voice that is slightly reminiscent of Tom Waits at times! He puts me in a great mood and makes me want to dance!

Here's a sample because everyone who knows good music should hear him.

The wonderful Ludovico Einaudi and his latest album "Nightbook" - since hearing it in the Concert hall it is played a lot as I close my eyes and relive that wonderfully amazing night

If you are of a mature age then you will remember McAlmont & Butler.

An extraordinary collaboration between soul/pop artist and a contemporary classical composer. They met at an unusual event about the launch of a book about 'noses'! It's totally cross genre. Unique. Nyman music, McAlmont wrote lyrics around it relating to current events. It is amazing. i love it

Not laughing....I've read the book a few times and some might call me sad....guilty as charged but I've really enjoyed the Harry Potter series, not as literature with a capital L but as a rattling good yarn. It was brilliant, in Tripod there's a curfew of 11 o'clock sharp because then it turns into a nightclub then. But the roars of the crowd were deafening and Ben just kept dragging out the song for as long as possible, gettting each member to do a solo. He was even turning to the people at the side of the stage(who must've been trying to tell them to get off, although we couldn't see them) and pointing at them and singing to them. It was class.:D I'd say the staff weren't impressed though.

'When I Grow Up' by Fever Ray

When I grow up, I want to be a forester
Run through the moss on high heels
That’s what I’ll do, throwing out boomerang
Waiting for it to come back to me

When I grow up, I want to live near the sea
Crab claws and bottles of rum
That’s what i’ll have staring at the seashell
Waiting for it to embrace me

I put my soul in what I do
Last night I drew a funny man
with dog eyes and a hanging tongue
It goes way back, I never liked a sad look
From someone who wants to be loved by you
