Yesterday, I dropped off a copy of "Songs from the Deep Forest" to an acquaintance of mine, Michaela Majoun, who's the morning DJ at Philadelphia alternative music radio station WXPN!
http://www.xpn.org/. She's also an alternate host on their nationally respected syndicated show "The World Caf?.http://www.npr.org/templates/rundowns/rundown.php?prgId=39&agg=1

She was all excited to get some new music from ireland and said (on air) that she'd play a track on her new music show on Tuesday week (20th Feb). I can't guarantee that she will, but it might be worth checking out the stream http://xponentialmusic.org/live_streams/xpn.php when her show's on, between 6 & 10 a.m. over here (that's between 11 a.m. & 3 p.m. in Ireland & the UK).

Megacareers in the US have started with less :D

Cheers

Good news! Thanks for the info. :)
I've already heard of WXPN on KT Tunstall's forum. Seems to be a respected radio station, and great to discover new acts.
Can only be a good thing for the Duke. 8)

Yeah, they started playing KT's music about this time last year, now she's all over commercial radio & TV here. Same with Damien Rice a few years back and Rodrigo y Gabriela a few months ago. Lots of commercial stations take their cue for new artists from 'XPN, KCRW in LA and a few other influential non-commercial stations. They're way more open than most stations over here to new stuff and music of all styles, the DJs have greater freedom in picking the kinds of stuff they play (instead of being forced to use a market research-driven playlist) and Duke will fit in really well.

Let's hope it works out.

Cheers,

Colman

Oh wow - great move Broomallharps! :D XPN is definitely a great station to start, you're fortunate to have a contact with Michaela. Hopefully she will play it next week, but I'd be surprised if she doesn't since Duke would fit in so well.

FWIW, David Ford's two Philly appearances last year have been at the World Cafe - first time he supported KT Tunstall, but the second was one of the few headline gigs he had in the States. :D Fingers crossed Duke will end up following that path...
