Vicar street is a great venue and would suit the Duke well!

Been there a couple of times for all sorts of different genre-d gigs!

Really, really hope your right chezbrunaud, because if this is true, I might be able to make it. :) My exams are the end of March which unfortunately means I'll miss the Olympia gig. Those tickets sold out so quickly too.

I would have prefered the wednesday night, but have opted for the seating gig instead on account of the fact that mrs O.G. couldn't see most of the ulster hall gig.

EDIT: THIS IS FOR SNEAKY NOT OLD GIT!!!

Let's think of a word...

Let's think of the crooner who sang "You're Beautiful".

Let's think of his surname.

Let's remove the "bl"

Let's place a "c" in lieu of the afore deleted prefix.

There's a wee piece of niceness. From me. To you.

There are not many moderately priced hotels in dublin, but there is a cracking wee youth hostel in the middle of temple bar-Barnacles is the name-good spot.

The Temple Bar hostel I stayed in for the Bellies was woeful!! Actually awful! We woke up and the floor was flooded! So bad. There are buses that run until 3am though

i was a bit slow then, my tickets are for row A52, perhaps i'll see you in the bar OG?

Hotels - Parliament Hotel is 10 min walk down the road from Vicar Street, Isaacs is by the bus station 30 min walk, Harcourt hotel is off top end of Grafton St 20 min walk to gig. All reasonably priced, then theres the Clarence of course :D

I stayed there for Crawdaddys, was noisy for about half an hour after the club closed but other than that I was very happy, grand little place, no luxury just nice clean hotel.

Ah sorry! The broadband is supposed to arrive before the end of the week so....you've been warned!! But I am sorry, I've seriously neglected this board...

Yep so Maur and I went down to Waterford, 4 hours on the bus (whilst Mr driver took every single dirtroad he could just to prolong the journey!) , went straight to the Travel Lodge, checked in, changed within 2seconds and legged itt o Garter Lane...got in literally seconds before Thomas came on..front row centre-nice! (Helen were you sitting behind me per chance??)
The crowd were all very well behaved and listened to everything in perfect silence before showing their appreciation at the end. I think the crowd suited Thomas T's set nicely as he didnt have to battle with the usual talkers and noisemakers...I think he enjoyed it himself :)
Duke S and Co came on and played an absolute blinder! Unreal. I preferred his waterford gig to the followong night myself. Because it was such a chilled out listening type crowd you could really just relax and listen to the music. Dukes voice is amazing...I've always known that but he somehow it just hit me like a brick wall on wed night.... Chip had loads of room onstage to get upto his usual antics but I loved when he ran so quickly towards the drums it didnt actually look like he could stop in time and seriosly had to put on the breaks at the last second!
As was already mentioned on here, they all unplugged and stood in front of us to play Quiet Revolutionary and I Saw the Light which was such a treat-unbelievable! Got him to sign a big poster for my lil sister at the end and shes made up with it :)
From there we headed for a few drinkies, met up with Johnny from Phil Grimes and ended up very drunk and fairly toasted too....woke up the next morning with a pretty heavy head! Then off to the bus place again....
Got to Dublin, headed out home, realised we didnt have enough time for food and/or showers so got a taxi back into town to the venue....wasnt allowed to bring my bottle of water in grrr. The gig was great, so completely different to Waterford. the crowd participation was fantastic to see though the 'clapping horribly out of time and for no reason' got a bit annoying after a while! It had such an 'end of tour' atmosphere about it and it was amazing to see exactly how much Dukes star has arisen since his last Irish tour......Having spoke briefly to Chip afterwards he reckons he meant to fall off-stage teehee :)

This is all very rushed and I know I'll regret not taking more time over it but its 20.25 and I finished work 25mins ago. My beau has just text wondering where Iam cos dinner is ready so...!
I know I'll rem a million more things once I've disconnected so finally hello to all you guys I havent spoken to in ages, Im sorry and I promise I'll make more of an effort to keep in touch...

Claire xxx :)

15-03-2007, 1:47 pm
Haha thanks, it was all very rushed :) Im sorry I kinda just came in and started ranting there ignoring the current topic of conversation! If anyone is still looking for accomadation, you should check out some of the places along talbot st....they mightnt look great from the outside but are nice enough inside and are not too expensive....You mightnt want to be walking back there on your own late at night though...

Eoin

Right so Ive just woken up and realised that Katie didnt ask about the past gigs at all *not with it at all anymore*

So just to compLete my last post...the last time we stayed in Dublin it was in the Celtic Lodge or so Ive just been informed...Theres a pub downstairs of the same name which plays scary diddly-i music 24/7 but we stayed there for the last Dylan gig and it was perfect for our one night stop...

As for the upcoming Vicar St gigs (duh!) I have a serious dilemma...you see DMB is playing the 23rd of May and Maur bought tix for that months ago....and Mark Geary is playing the 22nd and although you all know I love Duke....I have never seen DMB before and I'm not likely to get another chance for a long long time. Also Marky hasnt played in a good while and he's only doing a short 4 date tour.....It tough cos we wouldnt just be missing the gigs but theres always a huge boardy meet-up for the Marky gigs and theres also a huge crowd going to DMB....But that said, the same is true for these Duke S gigs coming up by all accounts and because Duke Special is getting so big its impossible to predict when we'll see him live again..... HELP?? :? :?

No - was about 2/3rds of the way up but excellent view all the same. But I was right at the front in the Tripod (left hand side). Good to hear your reports of Waterford and Dublin, Claire!

It's early and I'm probably being a bit dense, but what is DMB??

Aww Siano, what date are you going to? Sandra will def at Marky.....in Whelans! My tix for the 23rd just arrived this morning :( I still havent made my mind up whether to go to Duke S or Marky...To make things harder a friend from Bratislava is coming over for DMB and now Mark G. AND Peter Doran (who you will be hearing more of!!) might be opening for Mark!

Helen, I was almost postive it was you as the lady behind me had an english accent and knew all about Duke....although I do realise there are quite a few english ladies 'in the know' ;) I wish I came on here before the gigs so I would have known who was going where! But to answer your question-DMB stands for Dave Matthews Band. They are a huuuuge american group and aside from Daves recent solo show, they do not play in ireland v. often...at all.

Wyntir-Vicar st is a great venue, the sound, the lightning, the capacity-its got it all in one package. Quite a lot of performers would declare it their favourite venue in Ireland or at the very least, Dublin to play. I've never been to a seated show but I know they had it in tables format at a Frames show before, as opposed to seating in rows. Im not sure how they are doing it for this gig though...I think there are pictures of the venue on their website if you google it?

Sergei A 3
16-03-2007, 7:10 pm
I've been to quite a few seated gig in Vicar st and worked there a few times and stuff, and they always have the table format. So i presume it'll be that way again :)
I just bought my tickets for the Wednesday night :)

Now I am biased here again, because I am merch girl for Marky sometimes but I would say go see him :D Only because he isn't doing very many gigs of late - I'm surprised hes even doing these! Last time I saw him he said he was taking quite a long break from gigging.
Also Whelans! So teeny, its a great venue to see Mark in. I'd be there for definite if it wasn't for my exams. I may possibly still go though, ha ;)

Can't wait hon. I'll bring the pear cider, you bring the frolicks :D

Right so, the frolicks will be present. You will be proud to hear I had the old pear cider in the Foggy Dew the other night, very tasty stuff my dear. So plenty of that will be needed. hehe

Also, ticead? arrived in the post today! :)
