Hi everyone. I am new to this forum. So, hello out there in the forest!
Just wanted to know if anyone was at the Tripod gig in Dublin this evening?? Unfortunately, I am now at home as I have work in the morning...can't go out partying and burn off the buzzz. The piano stunt was something I have never seen before..guitars smashed, drums thrown maybe...that was something new!
Love to hear what other people thought of the night

wow wow wow :D :D

They sure know how to put on a show! I was highly impressed with them at Snow Patrol and tonight just confirmed those thoughts!! Right from the very beginning I was transfixed by Peter's incredible voice!

Highlights of the night were I let you down, Freewheel, Salvation Tambourine, Last Night I Nearly Died and of course the simply amazing No Cover Up! But best moment of the night was by far the last song (which embarrassingly I cannot name !) I managed to touch THE HAIR

Also Tainted Love was one of the funniest things Ive ever seen at a gig! Neil Hannon was hilarious! 10,000 Euro

What was the name of the song they played in the crowd anyone know?

Brilliant night.

I had a Chip on my shoulder tonight when he decided to go crowd surfing - dont think my shirt will survive though.

Off to Amsterdam in 5 hours to get ready for Paradisso on Saturday.

My friend recorded Tainted Love and I shall put it on youtube if I can make it small enough.

Ian

PS Siano - were you on the balcony tonight? Thought I saw someone who looks like your avatar.

Alas and Alack it was not me as much as I would have loved to have been there I have been holed up with uni work :(

:D is the best way to describe how i felt walking into, during and after that gig. It was amazing to see so many people there singing along to those songs. I remember the first time that I saw Duke playing support in Whelans and I bought the EP, knew that it was something special and last night proved that. Cant wait to do it all over again.

There is no words to describe a gig like this. Absolutely amazing. The crowd interaction last night was something else. Thomas Truax, what a kooky legend! I thought he was quite the entertainer. The "Maps" cover by the Yeah Yeah Yeah's was possibly the most beautiful thing I have ever heard. You could hear a pin drop during the performance. I have a wee clip of it on my phone so might put it up although the quality isn't brilliant. Oh and I finally got to hear "No Cover Up". Such a beautiful song along with all of Peter's songs. :)

The audience was electric last night and they all just seemed to be memorized by the music and enjoy every minute of it. Chip fell/jumped off the stage into the crowd at one point, he is an absolute wonder with all his little musical gadgets. What a musician.

We really did get a very special, original version of "Tainted Love" from Peter and Neil Hannon. My God, what a laugh that was. I never seen two artists so relaxed together and enjoy a duet so much. It was so funny when Neil put his arm around Peter in a flirtatious way and Peter just jumped away as quick as a coiled spring! lol "Salvation Tambourine" was just pure nuts and Peter went pure crazy at the finale, lifting up his piano and trashing it around the stage, and by doing so he crushed his little gramophone! (I'm hoping it was fake)

Then when they all came into the crowd singing "I saw the Light' the audience were so hyped up at this stage I'm suprised they didn't get mobbed, brave move by the Duke and co! Also what shined through was Peter seemed so happy and relaxed with us all, he was feeding of the audience's energy!

Overall best gig I have ever been to by far, I have never seen such a talented musician give so much to an audience. The bond between the audience and band last night will be unforgettable. I got loads of pictures on my disposable camera of all things! So could be quite a while before I get them up, I will eventually though. Can't wait to see how they turned out myself, I was right at the front practically so I'm hoping for a few good snaps of the band.

The queue for the taxi's was unreal, so my friend and I waited around awhile after the gig to try our luck at meeting Peter and co., one of their very lovely roadies saw a small group of us waiting and told him he would get him for us, thank you whoever you are! So we met the wonder himself, he couldn't have been nicer, such a gentleman. He signed autographs for everybody and eveyone got a snap taken with him too. I may also add it was freezing last night, so fareplay to him for leaving his end of Irish tour after party and taking the time to do that for us. He is a star. It was an amazing, magical night and I am still on a happy buzz today as a result and probably will be for the rest of the week. What a night. :)

(Posted this in the wrong place the first time me thinks)

The Tripod is a fantastic venue and that was an amazing show last night!! :D Complete contrast to the small sedate Waterford gig the previous night, although that was also excellent. The atmosphere was just electric again and you could feel all the high expectations and anticipation in the crowd but the band certainly lived up to it and put on a splendid performance. I think it might just have surpassed the ULU gig ...

Duke of Hal, I can confirm that Paul and Dave Allen sang backing vocals on Last night I nearly died (though they didn't need to as the audience had that one well sorted out!) and Portrait.

There were quite a few highlights - Baby Britain keeps growing on me and I love it more each time I hear it, there was quite an emotional version of This could be my last day, Don't breathe (with just Duke and Chip), Quiet Revolutionaries was superb and Salvation Tambourine with Thomas Truax joining in, I let you down with the fleeting Chip crowd-surfing moment, Tainted Love with Neil Hannon was just incredible and very funny, and of course the singalong of I saw the light in the middle of the crowd (and the expressions on the security guards' faces - they didn't know what to make of it all, especially after Thomas had been running around singing in the balcony).

Set list was:
Closer to the Start
Brixton leaves
Everybody wants a little something
Slip of a girl
Last night I nearly died (with HAL)
Wake up Scarlett
Maps
Baby Britain
Don't breathe
No cover up
Quiet Revolutionaries
Tainted Love (with Neil Hannon)
Portrait (with Hal)
This could be my last day
Freewheel
Salvation Tambourine (with Thomas Truax)
***
I let you down
I saw the light

Hope I didn't miss anything out (Mac can correct me if I did cos I think he got most of it taped!) - my excuse is I didn't get much sleep last night as my hotel was in the temple bar area so the noise died down at about 6 am and then I had a great alarm call at 7 am when a van pulled up under my window with the radio blaring just as Freewheel started playing and then he drove off as it finished. So that was nice to wake up to!

I can only agree with all the praise for last nights Tripod concert. I'd only be repeating accolades by adding more myself but I will say this much......
Funniest part of the night -
Thomas Truax's inappropriately loud "Hornicator" twangs in the quiet bit of Salvation Tambourine which put the crowd and band into hysterics and completely threw Dukes concentration off.
Classic!

Yep I remember that, then Peter wanted him to keep continue doing it as if it was part of the song! One of the many funny moments from the gig, another being the security guards in front of the stage. They didn't know what to make of Thomas Truax at the beginning running wildly around the venue, the looks on their faces were priceless.--> :? lol

Pretty poor quality! It's basically just the back of Peters head most the time :D

Mac, I cant agree more.
The Hornicator had everyone in stitches during "Tambourine!!" There was a bit where Peter was unable to get a word out...

Peter was such an amazing entertainer, and he was so chatty and relaxed with us: the mezmorised audience!!
I had only heard their " I nearly died" song and a bit of "Freewheel" on the radio over the last few months. I always missed the commentary on who had sung it...so I was in frustrated agony, trying to find out who this brilliant band were.

Major thanks is in order to a friend, who invited me to this 'mystery' concert at Tripod. I didnt know the group...The first note out of Peter's mouth and I was hooked. When I heard "I nearly died"..It all clicked!! Finally, I found out who this band was. On friday, took some time off work, marched down to Tower Records and got the album...and a new fan was born!!!

Hello Everyone! I'm new. Yes I was at that gig. Amazing night. Best gig ever. Maps and Tainted Love were the best bits, oh and not forgetting Salvation Tambourine. Got the thrashing on my phone! I would have loved him to do Ballad of a Brokan Man though. Ah well, I'm going to see him again in May so hopefully then. It was hilarious when he was introducing the band and he was like-"This is fun- Ladies and Gentlemen a record!"
