View Full Version : 8th of March Tripod Dublin. :)
There is no words to describe a gig like this. Absolutely amazing. The crowd interaction last night was something else. Thomas Truax, what a kooky legend! I thought he was quite the entertainer. The "Maps" cover by the Yeah Yeah Yeah's was possibly the most beautiful thing I have ever heard. You could hear a pin drop during the performance. I have a wee clip of it on my phone so might put it up although the quality isn't brilliant. Oh and I finally got to hear "No Cover Up". Such a beautiful song along with all of Peter's songs. :)
The audience was electric last night and they all just seemed to be memorized by the music and enjoy every minute of it. Chip fell/jumped off the stage into the crowd at one point, he is an absolute wonder with all his little musical gadgets. What a musician.
We really did get a very special, original version of "Tainted Love" from Peter and Neil Hannon. My God, what a laugh that was. I never seen two artists so relaxed together and enjoy a duet so much. It was so funny when Neil put his arm around Peter in a flirtatious way and Peter just jumped away as quick as a coiled spring! lol "Salvation Tambourine" was just pure nuts and Peter went pure crazy at the finale, lifting up his piano and trashing it around the stage, and by doing so he crushed his little gramophone! (I'm hoping it was fake)
Then when they all came into the crowd singing "I saw the Light' the audience were so hyped up at this stage I'm suprised they didn't get mobbed, brave move by the Duke and co! Also what shined through was Peter seemed so happy and relaxed with us all, he was feeding of the audience's energy!
Overall best gig I have ever been to by far, I have never seen such a talented musician give so much to an audience. The bond between the audience and band last night will be unforgettable. I got loads of pictures on my disposable camera of all things! So could be quite a while before I get them up, I will eventually though. Can't wait to see how they turned out myself, I was right at the front practically so I'm hoping for a few good snaps of the band.
The queue for the taxi's was unreal, so my friend and I waited around awhile after the gig to try our luck at meeting Peter and co., one of their very lovely roadies saw a small group of us waiting and told him he would get him for us, thank you whoever you are! So we met the wonder himself, he couldn't have been nicer, such a gentleman. He signed autographs for everybody and eveyone got a snap taken with him too. I may also add it was freezing last night, so fareplay to him for leaving his end of Irish tour after party and taking the time to do that for us. He is a star. It was an amazing, magical night and I am still on a happy buzz today as a result and probably will be for the rest of the week. What a night. :)

Awhh sounds like such a good night! Glad you had fun!! I love coming away from a gig that you have enjoyed that much. :)
Aw thank you Claire. :) It was just incredible, no doubt you felt the same after his gig. Duke's music is a breath of fresh air, may sound a wee bit cheesy but it's so uplifting and spiritual, it completely touches the heart. I love everything about it, there is just something magical about the whole package, dreadlocks, gramophones, cheese graters, chipsticks and all!

No review would do this gig justice, it was absolutely incredible :)
It was my 10th time seeing Duke, and by far the best. I have never seen such crowd interaction like that, I have no voice at all today :)
Thomas Truax was as weird as ever, running around the crowd and crawling around the stage!
Duke sang the most beautiful cover of Maps by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, followed by an immense renditon of Baby Britian by Elliott Smith.
Chip fell off the stage, I think he mis-judged how much room he had to hit the cymbal with his whisk and ended up falling over security into the crowd, it was hysterical
Divine Comedy sang Tainted Love again - amazing, it was SO funny, they messed up the verses, made up their own verses, and Neil Hannon kept going 'I won ?10,000 hahahaha' basically after the Choice Music Awards last week - and Duke would just go *cough* bastard *cough*, mid-song
He had 2 of the lads from Hal singing with him too, for Last Night I nearly died and Portrait.
Last Night I nearly died was incredible - the crowd took over singing it half way through, drowned out Duke completely!
I've never seen Peter so banter-y, at one point before 'Don't Breathe' I figured he must have been drunk or something, he was cracking jokes and couldn't stop laughing at everything that was happening! But I think he was just feeding off the crowd, it was a really great crowd.
I think my highlight was the end of Salvation Tambourine - he went so crazy, he stood on top of the piano, then picked up his piano and smashed it about the place, broke a few things of stage like lights by smashing the piano into them and kicked over a few chairs and things before running off!
And he came into the crowd at the end and sang 'I saw the Light' - Hank Williams.
Big grin on my face today :D

I was there too! Great reports you guys. I was right in front of the piano at the trashing finale and I do believe the gramophone was a fake - the horn looked like card, and the turntable like a bread board, I was surprised the old joanna was still working afterwards though!! Here are a few snaps I took. An unforgettable night.

I have NEVER been to a gig that had this kind of positive energy as Dukes in Tripod.
I've been telling everybody I know about the band. Great to see there will be a webcast of the Amsterdam Paradiso show. I've sent the link on to all my friends in Amsterdam and around the world. Duke will be a household name in no time!
Well done, Duke! You deserve to be a star!
p.s: great pictures Lonesome Pine !!
I wanna be part of the re-union!! :D
You can count yourself part of it young sir even though I didn't bump into you! Also, there was no need for pickaxes and shovels in the end, Jen got in via a golden ticket. :)
Lonesome Pine, I think you may have been right infront of me at the gig and I may have even been talking to a few of your friends at the beginning? I was literally right infront of the piano with my friend just behind a couple. There was such a lovely bunch of people there that night, everybody was so friendly. Brill pictures by the way, lovely shots of Thomas Truax, esp. love the last one of Peter. Mine are getting developed as we speak. The curse of the disposable camera...

Thank you all for your kind comments on my snaps. And Ro, I am sorry I didnt say hello. It was a lovely crowd there that evening, a real warm atmosphere. (And very hot inside too!). And dont knock the disposable camera, a couple of years ago I got some great pics of KT Tunstall with a disposable camera, which I was very proud of. Here are a few more from Thursday.

Yes the curse of the disposable camera....the quality is terrible! Just got them, and the one taken of the duke and I outside the Tripod was underexposed so it didn't come out. :( Ah well not to worry, I'll have the memories.
The snap I took of him by himself outside came out though, lets just say it captures one of the Duke's mad moments. lol I'll try get it up once I get my hands on a scanner.
(next time, digital camera, no doubts in my mind... )

First of all, belated Birthday wishes Sian :D hope you had a fun evening and didn't upset the neighbours
Yes there is a silhouette of a person and they're waving, could well be my hungoverness too though?
Wait a second I see a face now, it can't be, surely not?? It IS, it's the face of Jason Donavan!!! :!:

Shots are awsome!
Got a flickr?
Here is the wee clip from Thursday night of the Duke singing a beautiful cover of "Maps".
I recorded it using my phone hence why the quality isn't great but it was one of the real highlights of the gig for me. :)

Happy Birthday Sian !
And Guinness, I use photobucket, which I thought was similar to flickr, but someone else suggested I use flickr to improve my pics, so I must check it out, thank you.
Finally, a few snaps from the Tripod gig. My scanner is operating again! (and yes I am considering to purchase a digital camera now)
Apologies for the bad quality, many were sadly underexposed. Never again shall I be using a disposable camera....
These few snaps were the best out of a bad bunch. Thankfully there were a few saving graces. :)
Meeting Peter outside the Tripod, unfortunately you can't see him doing those jazz hands!
