Following on from his triumphant sell out Irish tour, including 2 sellout shows at Cyprus Avenue, Old Oak Promotions presents Duke Special for a very special seated show in Cork Opera House on Monday 21st May.
With a Top 10 album in Songs From The Deep Forest, a Top 10 single and a Top 5 airplay hit with Freewheel, performances on The Late Late Show, Tubridy Tonight, Jools Holland and TOTP2 plus three Meteor Music Award nominations, a Choice Music Prize nomination for Best Irish Album of 2006 and sold out tours across Ireland and the UK, the Duke Special live extravaganza is one show not to be missed!
Having released his second album, the highly acclaimed Songs From The Deep Forest, on V2 in September of last year, Duke Special?s 2006 was the stuff of musician?s dreams - signing to indie-label V2 Records, a slew of European, UK and Irish dates with The Beautiful South and The Divine Comedy, a stunning performance on BBC2's Later With Jools, Snow Patrol supports at the Point Theatre, Dublin and Belfast?s Odyssey and three Meteor Ireland Music Award nominations for Best Irish Male, Best New Irish Act and Best Irish album.
Beginning 2007 with a Choice Music Prize nomination for Songs From The Deep Forest, the Duke went on to sell out both his Irish and UK tours including a triumphant homecoming at Belfast?s Ulster Hall and 2 roof lifting performances at Cyprus Avenue.
The third single from the album, the stunning Freewheel has become a huge anthem in Ireland with The Sunday Tribune best describing it as a ?shockingly massive, a kind of Josh Hartnett running after a girl on a packed New York street movie scene breaker of a tune??. While guest DJ-ing on BBC Radio One in mid-January,Snow Patrol frontman Gary Lightbody played Freewheel, referring to it as 'the song of my heart'.
The B-side to Freewheel features a collaboration between Duke Special and Neil Hannon of The Divine Comedy called 'Drink To Me Only With Thine Eyes' - a love poem by 17th century poet called Ben Jonson. Music to swoon to???
