View Full Version : Newcastle pre-show fundraiser!! Live set from Duke!
Hi everyone!!
I really, REALLY hope that as many of you as possible can make this!!
My fiancé and I are raising money for a trek in order to raise funds for the Marie Curie Hospice in Newcastle. My fiancé’s mother passed away last year and spent her final days in the hospice in Newcastle. I have seen the hard work and dedication that goes in to caring for cancer sufferers and their families and helping out when they need it most. They are amazing people and do an amazing job.
Katie and I both wanted to raise funds and agreed to take part in a trek next year to raise both money and awareness. We are currently arranging a number of events and activities in order to achieve our goal and one of them is this special one-off Duke Special gig.
If you are coming to the Duke Special gig on the night time then PLEASE come along early if you can and see Duke’s 30 minute set at The Cumberland Arms. It’s just up the hill from The Cluny (a nice walk up a few steps and you’re there).
The 30 minute set will happen from 3pm until 3.30pm. Make sure you’re there in good time as we wouldn’t want anyone to miss out.
This is free for one and all but a suggested donation of £2 is asked for by those that can afford it.
This promises to be amazing!!
Thursday 6th May
3pm-3.30pm
The Cumberland Arms (a minutes walk from The Cluny where the gig is at in the evening)
Please reply to this message if you're planning to come along! Tell all your friends, family etc. The evening show is SOLD OUT so this is an ideal chance to see Duke in Newcastle that day if you've missed out on tickets.
Thanks for reading and hope to see you there!

Good luck with this, a worthwhile cause. Unfortunately I can't make it to Newcastle (unless the Ash cloud worsens). Is there any way of donating online?
Hi Dublinram,
Thanks for the interest in this and very kind of you to offer to donate. You can donate online at http://original.justgiving.com/katieandian_trek2011.
We will try and get some video footage and get some of it online after the event too!
Many, many thanks. Your interest in Marie Curie means a lot to us.

Wonderful stuff - thank you so much.
RE ticket; I'm sure someone at the Cumberland will snatch it off you! I may have a friend who can take it off your hands, I've given him your details.

Thank you Ian, I found the pub and we had a great time as I'm sure everybody there will agree. Duke signed my Songbook as well :D

Thank you for coming - had a great time too! We raised over £140 from the gig today and that's not including online donations that some of you have been kind enough to give on top. Never anticipated so much support so thank you loads. What an ace afternoon.
Dave, not sure if anyone has been in touch with you about your spare ticket so hope you get it sorted!
Ian
Sorry to keep bombarding you all with messages about this, but Katie and I really are amazed at the support from Duke Special, his band, team and fans.
Yesterday was one of the greatest days ever for me personally and meant so much to be able to put on a pre-gig show of such prestige and purpose. Duke's kindness in mentioning our trek on stage during his evening show was totally unexpected (even having us resort to using his cap as a collection bucket we were so underprepared!) and resulted in our total fund raising for the day shooting up even more.
In total, we have raised £236.31 (so far!) from the Duke Special gigs yesterday. That is not to mention online donations from fans who couldn't make it. Amazing support. Thanks so much.
I have just uploaded a few photos from The Cumberland Arms that Katie took during the gig and they should be able to be viewed here (even if you're not on Facebook normally apparently):

Once again, a massive thank you to all who came to our pre-show Cumberland Arms gig, all who donated at The Cluny and all who donated online. Every penny really has made a massive difference.
Just to put it into perspective; £160 pays for a full shift for a Marie Curie Nurse in the patient's home while £400 pays for Marie Curie Cancer Care's contribution to the cost of caring for an in-patient in a hospice for a day. Every penny that you donated yesterday really has made a massive difference to someone’s life so please be very proud of your donation and support.
Lots of love,
Ian and Katie
Hi Ian, had no money on me at the Cluny so have just donated online. Good to see you again especially now I know you're a fellow James fan too ;)

Great pictures, Ian! So glad it turned out well.

Thank you!! I can't believe everyone's support! And yes, James are one fine band! Can't wait to see them again. You should def look into going to see them again, they're one of the few 'reformed' bands that actually want to do some new tracks and progress as a band rather than just playing the 'hits'.
Great pictures, Ian! So glad it turned out well.
Thank you Beth. Katie took em and I photoshopped them. She told me off for stealing them for my Facebook profile! Haha.
In total (I think - people still keep donating in person because of this gig!) we have raised £246.31 from the show at The Cumberland Arms and that's before the online donations have been included. £5 more would take us well over the £300 mark on this gig alone!!! Amazing, and down to all of you guys helping out, so a MASSIVE THANK YOU!!! :D
Ian xx
