Thought I'd better start this off so that those who wish to can say if they are coming, post any news, arrange to meet etc.

For starters a wee location map and link
http://www.iontascastleblayney.ie/coming-events
http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/ss244/itsMrAG/Duke%20Special/Castleblaneymap.jpg

Dublin is a bit closer than Belfast although there's not much in it and we opted for Dublin airport return - Not very efficient as it happens as we didn't know about Mrs Special's "Play me I'm yours" project at the time. We'll be in Belfast to see this during the day on Saturday then back to 'blayney for the gig!

Did you actually receive tickets MrFizzy? I've got a couple of paypal receipts which always make me slightly nervous.

You've got more than we have Dublinram - we booked by phone as you couldn't choose seats using website booking. We'll have to see whether they remember when we get there! I can say that we've had no problem so far with tickets at any venue however casual the arrangements seem to be.

As per Fizzy SOP we will be checking out the venue a couple of hours before the stated start time of 8:30pm, picking up tickets and then finding a place of refreshment and have PM'd mobile number - so we can meet you there at some stage :)

Great night MrFizzy but I think we need more detail :-)

Oh, there's much more to come DR but I'm not at my most cogent in the wee hours when I posted the set list. Unbiased and objective as my own report may be, I am also very interested in the experience of other fans at the show, not least from Fizzy!

As an opener, I'll start with Duke's second opening song after Sweet Kisses. The very exciting Ruby Murray project and Happy Days and Lonely Nights. You have had the great joy of hearing this at your pledge gig and kindly posted it and I thought a stage performance would be a treat for us all. Many of us might dream we had the ability to sing with such purity and expression - touched by the Divine! :)

Be assured - there's plenty more to say about the rest of the evening!

I saw some of you guys on Saturday night - I kept quiet coz I was with another couple and I didn't want to spiral off into conversations about Duke, love, life, pets, politics and religion ... oh yeah and Arsenal ... and Bowie ... WE LEFT AFTER THE GIG :-( even though I had an idea that Duke might play some more in the lobby ... never mind, it's just the honey and me at the Spirit Store - they'll have to ask me to leave !!!

Thanks for the details and vids Mr & Mrs F - I'll say hello in Dundalk !!!

Thanks for posting that.

I absolutely adore this song. It wasn't the right setting for it at Beautiful Days really but I would still have loved to have heard it live again.

We were treated to Wanda amongst other popular Duke numbers though

Quite understand the dilemma johntheguv - you want to introduce Duke to friends - but it can be a bit "full on" for them to meet the truly addicted! We'll catch up at Dundalk.

It's uncommon for Duke not to make at least a brief appearance after a show and although sometimes there's only time for a quick goodbye, sometimes when there is no strict curfew ...

We do like to take a few pics and note the set list but don't always rely on us for video! - we often get too engrossed in the performance ourselves. As regards the Castleblayney set list I thought it was a terrific mix of an introduction to the new material and a fantastically fresh vibrancy for the more familiar Duke classics during the encore. The lobby gig finale was pure Duke Special-ness - first and foremost the Entertainer :)

A few more photos from the show here

and the only other video I took - the Mother Courage theme is so powerful live ...

Will indeed but I don't think I'll be going to Shanghai to watch his next few shows :)

Not really got the time or the disposable income to go and see bands much. This was my second time watching Duke (The other being Leeds cockpit last year), and both occassions have easily been the best shows I've been to. Will probably make time to go to his next UK tour, and might even take my wife next time ;) Will certainly let you all know and find out where and when you'll all be meeting up though... If only I'd taken five minutes to register on the forum before we left for Ireland!!

Spirit Store 8th October ... SOLD OUT ... sorry to bear bad news treble99 ... unless of course you're a Utd. supporter ... only messin' ... small venue, possibly even smaller than the Iontas, above a wee pub on a quay on the Castletown river that flows into the Irish Sea. Lush green pastures overshadowed by the Cooley and Mourne mountains ... kinda ... mudflats and a coal storage yard with a few old rust bucket boats ... but hey it's County Louth and it's home !!!

You have us - Fizzy took an executive decision that the empty front row seats couldn't go to waste! You'll know for next time - and bring Mrs Speaks99!

It's only in recent years that we've been able to regularly go to gigs and we enjoy several artists. For us though Duke is so talented and different and varies his performances so that each one is unique - we just hate missing any if we can help it! :)

Yip,I'm a UNITED supporter johntheguv,I suppose everyone has problems!!that's a pity about the spirit store gig being sold out,I'd love to go to that,I was at the Indiependence festival gig in July and the Castleblayney gig at the weekend and I'll be at the electric picnic gig next weekend, real pity about the Spirit Store gig though.... Is it a seated gig

johntheguv
26-08-2010, 12:35 pm
It is kinda seated ... I went to Rodrigo y Gabriela sometime back and got seated at a bar table with three other friends practically in front of the stage. Other people stood at the bar and other people sat at similar high stool bar tables and ordinary bar tables and chairs. Its upstairs in the pub and it's just like a big lounge with a bar to one side. Maybe 200 people or so if that, so a fairly intimate gig. There is footage of the last time he played there on YouTube but it looks to be during the summer months and outside. Gig is on the 8th of October so hopefully we'll be snug inside !!!

Sorry to hear about your Utd affliction - hope you get a very easy draw this evening ... almost !!!

Only getting to post now after a busy week. I thoroughly enjoyed The gig in the Iontas Castleblaney. I felt really treated with the extra time we had in the foyer and was once again blown away with the whole show. I am hoping to post a few photos, but don't know how to make them smaller or is it ok to upload them as they are?

Met Mr Fizzy and Fizzy and enjoyed the company no end. Great to meet Runnerbean and Alison and John & partner from Donegal also. John hope you've managed to sign up on the board by now. And thanks to you all for posting your pics/videos, I've enjoyed catching up with everything.

We also enjoyed all the company on the trip except for the wasps hanging around our B&B - we must have looked like an outing of very strange people waving our arms, jumping and running around in circles the carpark!
